When we enter the service, we are put through rigorous training that is designed to not only transform our bodies but our minds into combat ready fighters. This is what makes the US military elite. When we are ready to leave the service however, there is ZERO training on how to go back and adapt to civilian life. THIS is the part that needs to change and it needs to come from the military itself. Basic training in the Army is 9 weeks when we enter. Why can't we get at least 4 weeks of transitional training with follow up and support for a minimum amount of time, depending on if the service member was in combat or a combat zone, when we leave?

Today we honor the brave men and women who have served in our United States Military. In the US, that is 18 million individuals, and almost 7% of our population. They deserve our support. To show our appreciation for this tremendous community today, we are bringing awareness to the veteran suicide epidemic. This is currently a battle we are losing, as we are not doing enough to address the dynamic challenges that our veterans face on a physical and psychological level, but also the social aspects of transitioning and integrating into the corporate workforce and social ecosystem. We are asking them to leave one community, in some instances they have known their entire lives, and enter another where most don’t understand the nuances of their experience or the dynamic challenges they are facing. Every single suicide compounds this issue because of the impact to their teammates, family and overall community. It will never get easier for our veterans if we don’t find a way to help. We are asking that everyone take a minute today and find a veteran, reach out, and find a way to support them in the coming months. A consistent check in, to show we care, can do a long way. It's a moment to reflect on the deep gratitude we owe to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as to acknowledge the veterans among us who have selflessly served. Across the UK, the percentage of households with a veteran living within varies by region, a testament to the breadth of service. Here’s how it breaks down by area: ??South West: 10.1% ??North East: 8.8% ??Wales: 8.1% ??East Midlands: 7.9% ??South East: 7.8% ??Yorkshire & Humber: 7.5% ??East Anglia: 7.0% ??North West: 6.9% ??Scotland: 6.7% ??West Midlands: 6.5% ??London: 2.8% As we observe Remembrance Day, let's take a moment to remember and thank every veteran, and those who sadly never returned, for their bravery and dedication. Each household marked here represents lives shaped by service and sacrifice, a reminder of the commitment that underpins our communities.

An oldie but a goodie, and well worth revisiting. This man, Shlomo Rechnitz, sees 400 US troops in an airport, eating paper-bag meals. He intervenes and pays for each squaddie to have a meal of their choice from an airport resto, $50.00 a head. Then he stands in front of them and thanks them for protecting him and his family from evil. I have first hand experience of Jewish community generosity and kindness, often in the form of an onslaught of potato latkes, matzah ball soup, rugelach, and brisket. Don't bother trying to politely refuse; resistance is futile. While standing six to protect these people as they worship, work, play, and celebrate, I have also borne the brunt of an onslaught of genuine gratitude for the presence of me, my team, and other stakeholders in the protective operation; "Thank you for being here for us". "Thank you for protecting us." "We couldn't assemble in peace if you guys weren't here." "We are only safe because of you guys" Etc, etc, etc. It's a far cry from being spat on, shot at, and insulted by certain other segments of the population. All this to say, in a roundabout way- the next time you see a soldier, veteran, cop, firefighter, paramedic ordering a drink and a bite at a coffeehouse or diner- think hard about digging deep into your pocket and paying for that order.
