You may have seen that the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) and the Royal College of GPs (RCGP) have developed a practical Repeat Prescribing toolkit designed to improve the consistency, safety and efficiency of repeat prescribing systems in general practices in England. Thanks to Donna Bartlett (Former APTUK Professional Lead for England) and Shamma Baig (APTUK EDI Lead) who were members of the advisory group contributing to the inception of the brand new practical toolkit. The toolkit provides a framework that enables GP Practices and Primary Care Networks, working in collaboration with community pharmacies and patients, to streamline workloads, improve patient safety and care, address potential oversupply and reduce medicines waste. Yesterday, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society published a comprehensive and timely report, ‘Medicines shortages: solutions for empty shelves’. We have been at the forefront of discussions on this critical topic over the last 12 months, engaging with stakeholders across government, NHS and pharmacy and were delighted to contribute to the work by the RPS. The report explores potential causes, impacts and solutions to medicine shortages. It also contains a strong set of recommendations, including more regulatory flexibility to speed up access and fairer reimbursement for community pharmacy, which we advocated in our whitepaper ‘Medicine shortages: What is going on and how do we fix it?’ #Medicineshortages #SandozUKI

NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson urges the 118th Congress to prioritize #PBMreform before concluding work in 2024 ?? ??: “Urgent needs remain – and unavoidable duties call – for the current 118th Congress. Congress already has done the hard work to develop and to forge bipartisan consensus on how to reform the tactics of market-dominant pharmaceutical middlemen – PBMs. More than two-thirds of voters agree – Congress should consider PBM reform to be ‘must-pass legislation’ before concluding work in 2024. By the same margin they agree that their member of Congress should ‘do whatever it takes’ to ensure Congress enacts such legislation in 2024. “Congress cannot leave undone and further delayed the reforms that will reduce Americans’ prescription drug costs, protect access to necessary medications and to pharmacies of choice, give pharmacies a chance against underhanded PBM tactics, and preserve the vitality of entire communities.” #PBMreform Read More: https://bit.ly/3UB0GOE
