Once you have done the work to create a clear vision, you need discipline, trust, selflessness, compassion, and perseverance to see it through. My posts are not designed to trash US Soccer. I would love to help them make the game better. In September 2023, US Soccer had a strategic vision: Grow the game. Foster the best playing environments. Develop winning teams. Grow the soccer economy to fuel reinvestment. Create a world-class organization. I don't see this as the answer, but I will support a vision. The problem is that I've heard and seen nothing about the strategy. How about growing the game? Seventy percent of players drop out of soccer by the time they are 13. More leagues are being formed, and vulnerable and super-competitive parents are being enticed to register for these leagues that give out false promises. Foster the best playing environments? We have kids at nine years old being talked about as elite. Our culture focuses only on winning and never discusses long-term player development. How is this the best environment? The scariest one for me is 'Develop winning teams.' I know this is related to the US national teams, but many in the country will not. This statement feeds into the win-at-all-cost culture, so if US Soccer says it, it must be correct. To get winning national teams, you need to focus on the foundation. Danger presents an opportunity in a crisis. We are in trouble, but we are going to get through this. We must keep our wits about us and remain engaged in the present while refusing to lose sight of a reassuring future. We must respond deliberately to this crisis by reflecting on our strategic vision. Does this fit into our values? How have things been going for the last ten months? It may be time to change our minds ?? Cheers University of Strathclyde for letting me deliver a talk in partnership with the Global Followership Conference: (Watch my 5-minute lightning talk ? in the video below) For those new to followership: -Virtually everyone is a follower - Anyone in position of authority has a follower role at times. -So the same people you now both have leadership and followership roles. Virtually everyone is a follower, here is how I explain it: -First Line Supervisors report to Mid-level Managers -Mid-level Managers report to Vice-Presidents -Vice Presidents report to the CEO (The CEO reports to the Board of Directors) ?? Keep in mind, that the same people you know, both have leadership and followership roles. (Watch my 5-minute lightning talk in the video below): Where I share how I believe we can implement followership and make it become a reality PS: If you found this valuable or learnt something new. Engage in the comments and ask questions and share your thoughts. Like and reshare so others can see ??

Remembering Dwight D. Eisenhower, 34th U.S. President, born on October 14, 1890. Here is an excerpt celebrating Eisenhower from the chapter "Anytime At All" in Leadership Lessons from The Beatles, which discusses accessibility and approachability in leaders. "Have you heard about the power of four words 'What do you think?' Bill Marriott, the founder of the Marriott Hotel chain, tells a story about the United States President, David Eisenhower, on his blog Marriott on the Move. In 1954, Bill was a student?at the U.S. Navy Supply Corps School.?He went home for the Christmas holidays. His family had a farm in Virginia. Through his connections with the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, his father invited the then-President of the United States, Eisenhower, to visit them. His staff had set up quail and pheasants for shooting since Eisenhower loved the sports. The weather was cold and 10 degrees below freezing. The staff wanted to find out if the President would still like to go out in the cold to shoot the birds or stay indoors by the fire. Bill was standing behind the President. Eisenhower turned to him and asked, 'What do you think, Bill?' Though a?little flustered, Bill?answered that it was freezing, and staying by the fire seemed like a good idea.?Eisenhower agreed, and they stayed inside. Bill says the four words 'What do you think?' make you feel free to express your opinions. You hope that what you say matters and that it will produce results. They make a leader approachable." Leaders who make time for their teams increase the opportunities to communicate their vision and hear feedback. When you practice approachability as a leader, you signal to your team that you are available, open to conversations, and seek collaboration.?

The NFL Draft After watching for the last several days. I found it interesting from different perspectives how much of the NFL teams philosophies are similar to any other large corporation/small business. What players they decide to draft can set them up for immediate success or failure for the next couple of months to years. What these teams value the most and specific traits they are looking for in their draft picks. Talent - The most talented will be drafted earlier. How will they make an immediate impact on winning? Do they fit our schemes and strategies for future success? Cultural Fit - How will they get along with their new teammates? Do they share similar values/goals with the rest of the team? Motivation - What type of competitor are they? What motivates them? Most important, do they have a desire to win? Here's to hoping the Dallas Cowboys have a successful draft for this upcoming season!

Back in March, I attended Day to Grow, an event by Maxwell Leadership. One of the speakers was Jamie Kern Lima, who sold her company for 1.2B and recently wrote the book Worthy. She said, "When you double your self-worth, you can double your net worth." I've been to enough of these events to know that building a network of like-minded people is one of the best things you can do for yourself. These people—your people, help you to learn, build your confidence, and support you.? When you do this, you'll see what Jamie said is true.? I write about my experience at events like Day to Grow all the time in my Limitless Growth Newsletter. If you want to hear these stories, check the link in the first comment to join the list.
