Where else can you have Superman, Ronald McDonald, Bugs Bunny, Sonic the Hedgehog, Dora the Explorer, Bluey, and of course, Mr. Big Dog on the street, Snoopy all in one place? Nothing says Thanksgiving more than the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Chances are we'll be up early to get the turkey and all the fixings ready. Or at the least, pondering the food we'll be eating and football games we'll undoubtedly be watching. Yet, in between all that, we'll be watching the parade of balloons, floats, marching bands and mini-musical performances. Macy's Thanksgiving Parade is a perennial ratings winner with a record 30 million viewers last year.
Kicking off the shopping season without freezing your sugar plums off along the streets of Manhattan sounds good to many of us. It's a big reason why NBC is gobbling up the broadcast rights that would raise the event's annual average price to $60 million. That's a lot of turtle doves and gold rings. But, then again, the parade is pretty extravagant, and you don't need an overabundance of eggnog to realize that.
You won't need the Radio City Rockettes to kick up the price. While major live events such as entertainment awards shows have seen consistently declining viewership over the past decade, no one's raining on Macy's parade. Last year's Thanksgiving bonanza was the highest-rated entertainment and live event program of the year in both categories across all of broadcast and cable. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise that NBC is will to pay more.
Regardless of whether parades are your thing, The National Dog Show airs immediately after the parade, which should make for great entertainment if you're gnawing a turkey leg or cutting into a tofurky. Either way, may the turducken be with you https://lnkd.in/gCtwUqBB #nbc #macys #thanksgiving #parade #events #holiday #television #entertainment #culture
