"If you're at least 80% qualified, you should apply" "If you're at least 60% qualified, you should STILL apply" "F It! Shoot your shot! ApPLy!!!" Feeling unsure about whether you're qualified for a job?? Let me simplify it for you: The truth is, 'qualified' is a subjective metric.? Here's how to decode job descriptions: 1?? Requirements: These are generally non-negotiable—especially for government-related or adjacent companies. You need to meet them. (look into OFCCP compliance) 2?? Preferred qualifications: Often called "Nice-to-haves", they give you an edge, but they're not deal-breakers. Candidates that meet all of these will like get preference . 3?? Responsibilities: These describe what you'll do on the job. Even if you haven't done them exactly, focus on proving you can do them. The key is ensuring your resume responds to the job description.? If your experience and skills aren’t on the document being evaluated (your resume), they won’t know how amazing you are. That’s why we built Teal’s tools—to give you clarity and confidence when applying. Our Resume Builder and Job Tracker help you align your experience with what hiring teams are looking for. As usual Amy Miller has the best quote: I want you to shoot your shot, I just want you to aim first
"The key is ensuring your resume responds to the job description." It's very important to "respond." After the non-negotiable requirement, the rest is just conversation. Do your homework. Put your best foot forward. You never know what opportunities will come your way!
Great advice on decoding job descriptions! I love how Teal’s tools help clarify what’s important. I actually just emailed about TealHQ—would love to connect and hear more about your insights!
I think of archery. You can be the darn finest archer in the world, but if you are shooting your arrow in the dark, you aren't going to hit the target. The job posting is the target. The closer you can legitimately show that you are a fit, the closer you get to the bullseye.
I shoot for 50% qualifications. The other 50% is what you get excited about in the interview and application. That's where the growth is.
Here guys talking about 60% whereas I give shots with 40%??
Great advice
This is great advice!
Tbh if you’re 30% qualified still apply. What’s the worse that could happen.
