Our Crisis Counselors had a fantastic time participating in Lone Star College-Kingwood's Mental Health Fair where they had opportunity to engage students and raise awareness of the importance of taking care of our mental and emotional health, as well as provide insights into the Crisis Counseling Program, which offers crisis counseling services to individuals impacted by the recent May flooding events across our region. If you would like more information on the Crisis Counseling Program or would like us to come to your next event, please reach out to us at - [email protected].

There’s a wealth of resources available at the International Association for Suicide Prevention which you can find here ?? https://lnkd.in/gU7tE4-W ???? At Right Now Group, we value the well-being of our colleagues and believe in creating a supportive environment for our team. Best things we learn on what to do as a Mental Health First Aider is to follow this acronym A.L.G.E.E. which stands for: . A – Approach, assess for risk of suicide/ harm. Find the right time/ place to start the convo with privacy & confidentiality. If the person does not want to talk, encourage them to talk to someone they trust. . L – Listen non-judgmentally. Many people just want to be heard first, so let the person share without interrupting them. Try to have empathy, can start by saying “I noticed that …” Try to be accepting, even if you don’t agree with what they are saying. . G – Give reassurance & support information. After someone has shared their experiences & emotions with you, be ready to provide hope & useful facts. . E – Encourage appropriate professional help. The earlier someone gets help, the better their chances of recovery. Tell them what's available or ask to come with them. . E – Encourage self-help & other support strategies. This includes helping them identify their support network, programs within the community, and creating a personalized self-care plan. . I have helped numerous people some friends, some colleagues and others are strangers from difficult situation from stress, anxiety, depression & near harming. I have lost friends & also friend's of friends to suicide.
