Tax season is just around the corner—don’t let it sneak up on you! Start preparing now with these three steps: 1. Organize Your Records: Gather all your receipts, invoices, and bank statements from the past year. Keep them sorted by category—such as income, travel, or office supplies—to simplify filing. If you’ve been using accounting software, now is a great time to review and ensure everything is up to date. 2. Review Financial Reports: Take a close look at your profit-and-loss statement and balance sheet to ensure they’re accurate. Look for missing or miscategorized entries, as these could affect your tax liability. This is also a good opportunity to assess your business's overall financial health. 3. Consult a Professional: Reach out to your bookkeeper or CPA to review your financials and help with tax planning. A professional can identify potential deductions, ensure compliance, and help you avoid costly mistakes. Starting early gives you plenty of time to address any issues before filing season begins. When I start working with clients, about 25% of the time, I see errors with how they've set up and managed the chart of accounts in QuickBooks. The chart of accounts is the listing of accounts that you use to categorize transactions, which then turn into your financial statements. When you don't have this set up correctly, it could look like you have more income or cash on hand than you really do, causing you to over-or-under pay taxes and have the wrong data to base decisions on. This is where a bookkeeper comes in handy! ?? Now is the time to make sure this is being properly executed. It's beneficial to catch these mistakes early on to save you TIME & MONEY! Don't let this spiral out of control. #bookkeepingmistakes #errors #FixMyBooks #AskABookkeeper #bookkeepingtips #virtualbookkeeper #bookkeepingcare #bookkeepingservices #smallbusinessownerlife
