?? Blueprint for Inclusivity Series: Applying Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs As A Design Lens ?? In our recent presentation at the IFMA Oregon & SW Washington Chapter’s 2024 Symposium, Jennifer Baines and Britney Hale dove into Maslow’s theory of self-actualization. This hierarchical model shows that to reach our full potential, we must first satisfy fundamental needs like food, water, and shelter—higher levels simply can’t be sustained without fulfilling basic needs first. ?? Learn more about how we apply this human-centered approach to design productive and inclusive work environments on our blog here: https://lnkd.in/gZSkQb6Y #Maslow #Design #Workplace #Wellness #Inclusivity #Architecture

M.Sc | BA(Hons) | Architect | Urban Designer & Urban Planner | Community Development | Multiple Competition Winner
I am happy to publish an explanation of this latest achievement, that our project is among 15 projects worldwide. In our design project, we embarked on a journey to breathe new life into a historic building, placing a strong emphasis on the transformative concept of place making and adaptive reuse. Our vision was not just about restoring the structure but reimagining it with a purpose. We revitalized the building by curating diverse and dynamic spaces, seamlessly integrating the external surroundings. This intentional approach aimed to actualize the idea of creating a distinctive sense of place, fostering increased social interaction, and nurturing a vibrant community spirit. Our primary goal was to enhance and support the historical building, repurposing all its columns to craft a canopy—a protective shield against climatic conditions and a year-round magnet for visitors. Simultaneously, we crafted an inviting pathway that weaves through multiple levels, intricately connecting internal and external activities. This vital pathway not only encourages social interactions but elevates them across various tiers. Our overarching mission for this project is to transcend the ordinary, transforming outdated spaces into dynamic, compelling focal points that embody the true essence of place making. Excited to share how our design thinking and commitment to revitalization can make a lasting impact on communities and spaces. #placemaking #AdaptiveReuse #DesignInnovation #competition #architecture #urbandevelopment #communitydevelopment Never Enough Architecture Youssef Othman Hossam Alyamani

Modern city planning often prioritizes ideology over practicality, leading to sprawling developments that lack functionality and beauty. Key lessons for better urban design include: Learn from History: Revisit proven designs to enhance connectivity and aesthetics. Design with Purpose: Create spaces that prioritize walkability and community needs. Avoid Quick Fixes: Implement sustainable interventions that address root urban issues. Human-Centric Approach: Focus on nurturing environments where people can connect and thrive.? This approach encourages functional, vibrant cities rather than superficial solutions. #UrbanPlanning #CityDesign #SustainableCities #Architecture #CommunityDesign #8Global

Houses are complicated... In a recent post, I asked how we define a house, but did you know they're more than just the walls around us or the roof over our heads? Houses reveal what people believe, who they are, and even reflect their health. What if we approached architecture with a user-first mindset? Asking ourselves questions like: Who am I building for? What are their beliefs? What do they value? What is their lifestyle like? And how can my building benefit their health? I’m not sure what results such an approach would yield, but I’m certain we’d see fewer one-size-fits-all complexes in the market. Do you agree? #Architecture #UserFirstDesign #MindfulBuilding #SustainableLiving #HealthySpaces #DesignWithPurpose #HomeAndIdentity #LifestyleArchitecture #UniqueDesigns #LessIsMore

Coach for Architects | ICF | 20under45 | Achieve work+life+success balance | Founder #HappierArchitects and @WHAD movement
Our comfort with nature is deeply ingrained, taking shape over 150,000 years. Concepts like biophilia, embedding nature into our built environments, are ways we reconnect with this primal comfort. Think about the joy and ease you feel returning to your childhood home or enjoying your mom’s cooking—it’s a deep-seated sense of belonging and comfort. In my “Happiness Coaching for Architects” program, I teach how to incorporate these natural elements into design, creating spaces that evoke this sense of home and wellbeing. Curious to learn more? Let’s connect and explore how to transform spaces with the power of nature. #Wellbeing #Happiness #Architecture #Design #Biophilia #UrbanPlanning #HappinessCoaching

This is what happens when a city has vibrant and inclusive spaces — communities thrive, people connect, and everyday life feels more human. When public spaces are designed for everyone, they naturally encourage walking, cycling, and social interaction. It’s a powerful reminder that thoughtful urban design isn’t just about aesthetics; it shapes how we live, move, and connect with each other. To create a more inclusive and resilient future, cities must embrace urban-focused change — building environments that work better for everyone.
