We had a fantastic time at the Confederation of Indian Industry Automotive Technology Summit 2025 held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on February 6, 2025. During the panel discussion, “Preparing for the SDV Future”, Ashwin Ramachandra, Director of Technology at Tata Elxsi, shared a thought-provoking insight: “The current OEM landscape resembles the mobile phone industry between 2005 and 2010. Back then, numerous OEMs with proprietary systems were ultimately disrupted by inflection points like the rise of Chinese manufacturers, Android, and iOS. The auto industry now faces similar challenges, with the potential for standardization and Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) to reduce R&D costs and reshape the market.” Why this matters: A push towards standardization and SDVs not only reduces development costs but also opens the door for greater collaboration and innovation in the automotive sector.
