Under the new Texas law, gas-powered, non-commercial vehicles between 2 and 24 model years old will no longer be required to have a safety inspection as part of the registration renewal process. However, most North Texas counties still require emissions testing to ensure that cars aren't emitting more pollutants than the allowed amount. ??Once your vehicle passes the emissions test, you can renew the registration. ??A $7.50 inspection program replacement fee will be added to the registration fee. ??Once you receive your new registration sticker, replace the old one. ??Electric vehicles, diesel-powered vehicles and motorcycles will not have to go through emissions testing ??Commercial vehicles in Texas are still required to pass a safety inspection.

GM Penalties: General Motors (GM) will pay nearly $146 million in penalties to the federal government for 5.9 million vehicles that do not meet emissions and fuel economy standards12. Affected Models: The non-compliant vehicles are from the 2012 through 2018 model years, including full-size pickups and SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe, Cadillac Escalade, and Chevy Silverado. EPA Findings: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found that these vehicles emit over 10% more carbon dioxide than initially claimed by GM and consume at least 10% more fuel than indicated on their window stickers3. Settlement Details: GM will forfeit credits for greenhouse gas emissions and expects the total cost to resolve the issue to be $490 million4. The company denies wrongdoing but has agreed to address the excess emissions.

The stakes in the regulatory battle over electric vehicles just got higher, as a federal appeals court determined California has the authority to set their own emissions standards and effectively ban gasoline powered cars. Unless overturned--possibly by the results of the upcoming national election--it will create a patchwork of states where it will be difficult to buy anything other than an EV. The California Air Resources Board in August 2022 approved a plan to end the sale of gasoline-only vehicles in the state by 2035. Because multiple other states have declared they will follow the California standard, this threatened to create a two-tier market in the United States. Automakers have dreaded being forced to build and sell vehicles in a patchwork of states with different requirements. Indeed, preventing state trade barriers cause was one of the reasons for the creation of the United States of America in 1776, and the encouragement of interstate commerce has been a feature of our Constitution for nearly 250 years. Furthermore, national standardization of features such as odometers, fuel economy, fuels, safety recalls have been a boon to consumers. However, it was the states that created the federal government, not the reverse. One area where the states have exercised some of their authority has been automobile emissions, and California's effort to set their own standards goes back at least as far as 1992. Whether or not the federal government acquiesces to this authority has been battled back and forth ever since. The Trump administration blocked it; the Biden administration allowed it. Now the courts say that the EPA has the statutory authority to grant states "waivers" from the federal law. That means whoever holds the White House can allow California--and other largely "blue" states that follow it--to shred the business plans of automakers. This will affect consumers, auto dealers, and autoworkers across the country. #epa #california #emissions #greenhousegases #electricvehicles #ice #evs #federalism #law #cleanairact #fueleconomy https://lnkd.in/enir7CpJ

Sacramento is an activist establishment. They use the largest economy in the US, and one of the largest in the world, not to grow and nurture the wealth and security of their citizens, but to establish an R&D lab for socialist schemes. These policies are often abandoned after they predictably fall flat on their face, but there are no consequences to the policy agitators who use Silicon Valley money and the politics of emotion to institute anti growth policies and punitive regimes that only hurt the idea who can least afford the hurt. For 30 years, the temperature hasn't dropped, the rains haven't really returned, the air quality hasn't really become magically better, not that it was bad enough to engender the hysteria in our legislative process. Our govt is run by activists. Funded by activists. Exploited by activists. Free Enterprise and Free Society is anathema to their designs. I have other words for Newsom, his brain trust and his bankers. I'll save those for later. But to tell Californians how much water to use, which cars to buy, which vaccines they must take, how to run their companies, who to put on company boards, not to speak of the social engineering we are subject to daily, in every corner of our lives.... this is exasperating in the context of the democracy, something Sacramento crows about but never lifts a finger to protect. I'm hopeful the public puts their feet to the fire in every election, and lets Sacramento know that we're not here as guinea pigs, but as free Americans first, seeking to live our lives undisturbed by their excesses. https://lnkd.in/gM8W2kmx

Donald Trump pulls the plug on battery-makers’ EV dream On his first day back in office, the new US president wasted no time delivering on a promise he made last year: to dismantle what he has described as a mandate to sell electric cars. Donald Trump, who had said such measures were needed to save the US car industry from “complete obliteration”, has ordered his administration to eliminate electric vehicle mandates and undo regulations governing automotive pollution and fuel-economy standards. The directive also calls for regulators to consider eliminating unfair subsidies that favour EVs over other technologies. Repercussions could extend well beyond the US to global carmakers and battery manufacturers. #ezoomed #electricvehicles
