Territory's intro design team stepped up this summer to create a new city-scale public art work representing the gap between the neighborhood of Austin, where we call home, and downtown Chicago. Their design "Help Us Bridge The Gap" is one of 8 new artworks wrapping a CTA Green Line train that is on the rails now and through the Democratic National Convention. Territory has a woodshop! We are now seeking a woodshop technician/teaching artist with hands on fabrication expertise to manage the shop, and guide our young people through building their ideas. Territory is honored to welcome Dr L. David Stewart as our first Director of Design Practice. Dr. Stewart will lead Territory’s career programs connecting young people from Black and Brown communities with skills, networks and career opportunities in urban design. As a key part of this work, Dr. Stewart will grow Territory’s urban design practice, providing young people with hands on projects to plan, design, and build great spaces for the West Side of Chicago from our home base in the Austin neighborhood. Dr. Stewart is a reformed architect, business scientist, passionate educator and lover of all things creative. He brings a robust architectural and construction management background, where he has worked on residential commercial and institutional projects, spanning over 28 years. Additionally, Dr. Stewart has a strong business background, where he has developed brands for various organizations in the U.S. and abroad, along with being a serial entrepreneur consulting for many small and medium size organizations throughout the U.S. Lastly Dr. Stewart has been a professor for over 11 years teaching at such universities as Harrington College of Design, Miami Dade College, Florida Memorial University and most recently National Louis University. Dr. Stewart has leveraged his architectural experiences and pivoted into the environmental justice and economic development space where he works with various organizations to improve conditions for Black and Brown people in urban spaces. Currently his focus is to bring tangible change in Black and Brown communities for economic improvement. Please join Territory in welcoming Dr. Stewart to our leadership team!
