So the TikTok ban is tickin' towards us with Sunday being the final day the app will be accessible (in some ways, still up in the air) to us. Updates from yesterday is that a Senator from Massachusetts tried to pass a bill that would extend TikTok for 270 days and it was shot down immediately by another Senator from Arkansas which means it's dead in the water as it needed to be unanimous to go into effect. Elon Musk and Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary tried separately to purchases TikTok with ByteDance resisting both offers and staying true to their words that they will not sell any portion of the app. TikTok users are flocking to an app called RedNote which is also Chinese owned and the Chinese on the app are asking Americans to *not* join the app as China is planning on takin' the app and separating out the servers which will block the Chinese people from accessing the already limited information they can get. Last but not least and I know you guys won't make this political as this is just an update post, Shou is planning to attend the inauguration on the 20th in hopes to show the TikTok user base that he won't be checking out with the app on the 19th. That's all I got for you right now!

Here’s the quick “what you need to know” on the TikTok ban. Congress enacted a law to ban the app out of concern that TikTok, whose owner is based in China, is susceptible to the influence of the Chinese government and posed a national risk. The measure would effectively ban TikTok from operating in the United States unless its owner, ByteDance sells it by Jan. 19. ? What’s the chance that the TikTok Ban goes through? Extremely high. There’s a very small chance the Supreme Court could stay the ban and give Trump the opportunity to use the power of the presidency to make the decision. ? Are there any bidders? There are rumors of Elon Musk, Mr. Beast making offers but so far the only valid offer was from Mr. Wonderful, Kevin O’Leary. ? If the ban happens, can you still use TikTok after Sunday? The most immediate effect would be the removal of the TikTok app from Apple and Google app stores, Americans could no longer download or update it. What not to do… Do not download Rednote. What to do… Go all-in on your owned channels (email, website) and consider starting or reviving your YouTube or Instagram. #marketing #tiktokban

As TikTok faces a potential shutdown in the US on Sunday, YouTube star Jimmy "MrBeast" Donaldson hinted at buying the app for American users. He revealed that numerous billionaires have reached out to discuss the possibility of making this purchase, as TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, must divest by January 19, 2025, to avoid the ban. MrBeast tweeted, "Okay fine, I'll buy TikTok so it doesn't get banned," after TikTok denied claims that China might sell its US operations to Elon Musk. While it’s unclear if MrBeast can afford such a purchase, he later mentioned, "Unironically I've had so many billionaires reach out to me since I tweeted this, let's see if we can pull this off." Simultaneously, TikTok plans to disable its app for US users if the ban proceeds on Sunday, pending potential Supreme Court intervention. The law would prohibit new downloads from app stores, but existing users could still temporarily access the app, per Reuters. TikTok’s strategy reportedly includes displaying a pop-up message directing users to a website with ban details and offering users the ability to download their data. TikTok and ByteDance have yet to comment officially on the situation. #DigitalPakistan #TechUpdate

Will TikTok remain available in the United States? The situation is uncertain. On January 19, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversaries-Controlled Applications Act comes into effect, potentially banning the platform nationwide. This has left many TikTok users worried—there are 170 million users in the U.S. alone. The app could be pulled from the U.S. market because lawmakers oppose the policies of its parent company, ByteDance, which they allege shares confidential user data with the Chinese government. This new law requires ByteDance to sell TikTok’s U.S. operations to a non-Chinese entity before the deadline, or else the app will be removed from digital stores across the country. ByteDance has appealed the decision, arguing that such a forced sale is technologically, commercially, and legally unfeasible. Elon Musk: A Potential TikTok Buyer? Rumors have circulated about possible buyers for the platform to prevent its shutdown in the U.S., with Elon Musk—owner of X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies—topping the list. However, TikTok itself dismissed these claims, stating, ?It’s pure fiction; there’s nothing to comment on.? 10,000 likes and I’ll buy TikTok and rename it Xvideos Mr. Beast: TikTok’s Superhero? The 26-year-old influencer and YouTube star Mr. Beast could potentially be the one to save TikTok. He ignited speculation with a tweet: “Okay, I’ll buy TikTok so they don’t ban it.” Later, he added fuel to the rumors with another tweet: “Unironically I’ve had so many billionaires reach out to me since I tweeted this, let’s see if we can pull this off ????.” Okay fine, I’ll buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned What’s Next? The U.S. Supreme Court is currently reviewing TikTok’s request to delay the law’s enforcement, seeking a solution to avoid an outright ban. Answers are expected by Sunday. #Elonmusk #MrBeast #Tiktok #TikTokban #Tiktoktrail #Tiktokshop #Ban #Ecommerce #Growbusiness

ICYMI: There's been big moves in the social media world over the last 48 hours. As D-Day for TikTok in the US looms, users are jumping ship to another Chinese app, Xiaohongshu, or "Red Note" which has now become the top downloaded app in the US, welcoming over 700,000 new users. The hashtag #tiktokrefugee is trending as users turn their migration into a digital flipping of the bird at the situation. Meanwhile US lawmakers are pushing for a delay on TikTok's Jan 19 cutoff, arguing it's unrealistic for ByteDance to divest quickly. And without the extension, it'll be lights out for TikTok. It’s all playing out like a digital game of cat-and-mouse, and it's been pretty interesting to watch. There are a HEAP of articles that have popped up in the last 24 hours, all with varying opinions as to what will happen, but this TikTok news stream on The Verge has all the most up-to-date TikTok drama in one spot. What to you think? Will TikTok actually be banned in the US as of Jan 19, and will Red Note fill the TikTok void, or is it just a stepping stone? We guess time will tell! #TikTokBan #SocialMediaNews #RedNote

?? Big News About TikTok in the US! ?? The future of TikTok in the US is on the line. By 19th January 2025, the app could be banned unless its parent company, ByteDance, sells it to a US-approved buyer. Why the urgency? US officials have raised national security concerns, claiming the app might be compelled to hand over data about its 170 million US users to the Chinese government. (TikTok denies this, of course.) But if nothing changes, here's what might happen to people who have already downloaded the app or intend to: ? No future updates or bug fixes ? No new downloads ? And eventually, no TikTok at all There could be a lifeline though. Following his recent election win, Donald Trump has called on the Supreme Court to delay the ban while he seeks a “political solution.” Whether this will save TikTok remains unclear. What would a TikTok ban mean for creators, businesses and users? Would tighter restrictions on the platform be a better option? We'll wait and see...

There is a lot of hype surrounding the TikTok ban so I’m here to dispel some myths. The US Supreme Court is to hear a last-ditch argument from TikTok’s parent company ByteDance to prevent the forced sale of TikTok to a US company or face a ban. It will make the case that a ban will affect US citizens right to free speech Considering the political makeup of the Supreme Court Justices, a Chinese company has little chance of winning. (Especially considering who appointed many of them) The US Government is rightly concerned about the ability for the Chinese government to manipulate the algorithm for political purposes. Therefore, it wants a US company to own TikTok - most likely so it can manipulate the algorithm for political purposes. What does this all mean for you? ?Existing users will still have access to TikTok ?Users outside the USA will experience no changes ?TikTok advertising platforms will still operate as usual (for now) There might be some interesting implications for user numbers. You might see misinformation driving users to other platforms in rebellion- however- if Threads is an indicator, they will return and in greater numbers

?? TikTok Ban Update ?? The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments today over whether or not this TikTok ban is violating people's rights to free speech or not BUT one thing is for sure- ByteDance (the Chinese company who owns TikTok) is not selling. This whole case rests largely on the fact that TikTok could stay around if ByteDance would sell of their portion to a US based company so that the data tracked from this app isn't in the hands of foreign leaders. ByteDance has started the proceedings stating that they will not be selling anything at all to anyone. On January 19th, depending on how this court case goes, TikTok will be removed from the app stores but the app will still remain on your phone. Unfortunately, there will be no more updates pushed to it and over time, the bugs and glitches will take over and it won't work anymore. For now, today, download your content so you can have it regardless if you choose to go to another app or not. At least it'll be yours to decide vs lost in space and time.

TikTok is back! But is it back for good? ?? While the TikTok “ban” in the US only lasted 14 hours, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s back for good. IS TIKTOK STILL BANNED? ? Technically, TikTok is still officially banned in the US, and you can’t currently download the app, but if you already have it, you can still use it. The only reason the app was able to come back at all was because Trump assured Oracle that they wouldn’t be fined for running TikTok despite the sell-off bill being in place, but Apple and Google have kept TikTok out of their app stores in case of future prosecution. WHAT’S NEXT FOR TIKTOK? ?? After his inauguration on January 20th, Trump issued an executive order to delay the enforcement of the sell-off bill for 75 days, however, there are two problems with this: 1. The first problem is that it’s a gray area whether a President can actually delay or reverse a law that’s already been passed 2. The second problem is that by the end of the 75 days, unless the enforcement of the bill is delayed again, or the law is changed, TikTok will need to be sold to US ownership, or the sell-off bill will force TikTok to be removed in the US. Either way, it looks like the future of TikTok is still uncertain, so if you’re a creator or small business on TikTok, focus on diversifying your platforms and building audiences elsewhere to make sure you are protected.

?? My hot take for today, yet something tells me I'm not alone.? I don’t use TikTok and this is why you shouldn’t either... TikTok has notoriously been under scrutiny for possible ties to the Chinese government (CCP). True or not, TikTok usage has also been linked to mental health issues, especially among teens. https://lnkd.in/guyuVJ_e Recently Scott Galloway said, "TikTok is the most ascended platform in history… but also an incredible security threat…” Listen to his sharp words on TikTok here ?? https://lnkd.in/gRm7Fx9E Scott also compared TikTok to a neural jack implanted by the CCP into the minds of Western youth. He argues TikTok should be banned in the West, but won't because "money always wins." The TikTok algorithm is super powerful due to its signal liquidity. It collects up to 78 user signals per hour. Netflix collects 4. This allows TikTok to know what you like before you do. Cool or creepy? Despite concerns, Scott predicts TikTok won't be banned in the U.S. Hey thinks ByteDance will eventually divest U.S. interests, calming geopolitical tensions and boosting its stock. How does this make you feel about TikTok? Personally, I think the writing is on the wall. TikTok is a ticking time bomb for western democratic values, freedom, privacy and mental health. So, if you're still using TikTok, maybe it's time to reconsider your life choices.
