Speaking truth to power, championing freedom of expression, informing the public on the most pressing stories of the day... and all while facing operational challenges and critique about bias, misinformation, and political influence. Journalists don't have it easy these days, do they!? And AI makes everything that much more complicated. The technology can obviously be a powerful tool to create content, boost research and fact-checking capabilities, and improve audience engagement. But if misused, AI can also spread misinformation and undermine confidence in the stories reported. It's messy out there in the world of news reporting, and practical guidance on how to mitigate risks associated with AI is now more important than ever. That's why I'm so excited to be speaking about AI and journalism at the following events: ?? 18 June: I'll be joining One World Media, a media charity that supports, trains and champions journalists and documentary filmmakers across the global south, for their Media Freedom Lab. My panel is "AI in the newsroom: challenges and solutions" (invitation only) and the following night, I'll be attending their Awards Ceremony at the Curzon in Soho.
