Such an innovative and needed resource.
Council Treasurer, The Ferns Peer-Run Respite; Appointed Member, Mental Health Planning Council; Board Member at HopeWorx, Inc.
I'm happy to announce the opening of The Ferns Peer-Run Respite, and have been honored to be part of a group of people working over the past 7 years to help make peer-run respite a reality in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Ferns Peer-Run Respite is a non-clinical mental health resource in Montgomery County, PA. We aim to be a crisis alternative resource for any individual experiencing emotional distress that identifies with needing a break but may not want to, or cannot, interact with current available clinical resources. The respite is located in a residential home, in a rural community, that has 24/7 trained staff available at all times. We’d love to have you as a guest!

AVAILABLE SIM MAPPING WORKSHOPS OPTION 1: TRADITIONAL SIM MAPPING WORKSHOPS The GAINS Center is soliciting applications from organizations, agencies, and jurisdictions interested in “traditional” SIM Mapping Workshops that focus broadly on identifying and responding to the needs of adults with mental and substance use disorders who are involved or at risk for involvement in the criminal justice system. OPTION 2: SIM MAPPING WORKSHOPS TO DEVELOP COMPREHENSIVE, COMMUNITY-WIDE STRATEGIC PLANS FOR ADDRESSING OPIOID AND OTHER SUBSTANCE USE The GAINS Center is also soliciting applications from organizations, agencies, and jurisdictions that are particularly interested in developing comprehensive, community-wide strategic plans for addressing opioid and other substance use, and better identifying and responding to the needs of adults with substance use disorders who are involved or at risk for involvement in the criminal justice system. Applications submitted in response to this solicitation should emphasize resources, gaps and opportunities, as well as commitment among key vested parties to address these issues.
?? Attention! Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)’s GAINS Center is now accepting applications for Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) Mapping Workshops! These workshops are designed to bring together a local, cross-system, multidisciplinary group to identify and reduce barriers between the criminal justice and behavioral health systems. There are two options available: Traditional SIM Mapping Workshops and Workshops to Develop Comprehensive, Community-Wide Strategic Plans for Addressing Opioid and Other Substance Use. The GAINS Center will offer these events FREE of charge between February and August 2025. ?? Don't miss out! ??? Apply by October 18, 2024: https://bit.ly/3AUFj3S

With the publication of The Right Not to Remain Silent: The Truth About Mental Health in The Legal Profession, Professor Thomas GW Telfer (contributing author and co-editor with Beth Beattie and Carole Dagher) continues his advocacy on the need to reform attitudes toward mental health in the legal profession. Including candid essays from members of the legal profession living with mental health and addiction issues, the book provides encouragement while challenging how mental health is perceived in law and beyond. Along with his co-editors and fellow contributors, Telfer hopes that the stories of bravery and resilience in The Right Not to Remain Silent will present an incontrovertible case that reform can’t wait. https://buff.ly/3QqPUYS
