One of the technical highlights of Spatial Information Day - as can be seen in this video highlights package - was the exhibition hall - which could easily have been one you'd walk around at a robotics conference, minus quadrupeds and humanoids (although sounds like next year there may be some quadruped purchasea to better "show off" some of their product offerings). Every type of sensor type and configuration - including some "Gaussian splatting-ready" LiDaR sensors! And robot and sensor platforms for aerial, ground - both indoors and out - and submersible operations. Some of the LiDaR sensors are in a class beyond what we typically use in robotics and autonomous vehicles, with amazing accuracy up to hundreds of metres (and price tags to match!) In this article, I delve into the critical realm of air corridor navigation, focusing specifically on the intricate process of lane transition for quadrotors. Our research introduces a new lane transition guidance method for a quadrotor flying in an air corridor system. ?Utilizing the bearing information of the neighboring vehicles, the guidance method directs the quadrotor for a safe transition between two lanes. Swarm of micro flying robots in the wild In this video, previously unknown surroundings and narrow corridors combined with requirements of swarm coordination can create challenges. To enable swarm navigation in the wild, researchers develop miniature but fully autonomous drones with a trajectory planner that can function in a timely and accurate manner based on limited information from onboard sensors. The planning problem satisfies various task requirements including flight efficiency, obstacle avoidance, and inter-robot collision avoidance, dynamical feasibility, swarm coordination, and so on, thus realizing an extensible planner.
