For Parkinson's patients like Wayne MacLaughlin, Tampa General Hospital is offering new hope through deep brain stimulation (DBS). After years of managing stiffness, slowness and tremors, Wayne finally found renewed independence. Dr. Yarema Bezchlibnyk of TGH & USF Health explains DBS as a way to "regulate the movement circuit of the brain," helping patients reduce symptoms and regain control. Watch the full story to see how we're transforming lives with DBS. #WeAreTGH #Parkinsons #DeepBrainStimulation

March is Brain Tumour Awareness Month. A brain tumour can affect anyone. According to brainstrust there are over 16,000 primary and secondary brain tumours diagnosed in the UK each year, annd over 80,000 people living with a brain tumour diagnosis and the impact it brings. It is a relatively common condition and yet it remains terrifying and mysterious to many. The purpose of Brain Tumour Awareness month is to shine a light upon this neglected condition, such that people can better understand what it really means to have a brain tumour. The best way to understand the realities of life with a brain tumour is to listen to the stories of brain tumour patients. Listen to the stories of 5 Brains Trust brain tumour patients. https://hubs.ly/Q02mQ9wr0 If you, or a loved one, is living with a brain tumour and needs some additional support and care, Curam can help. With over 8000 experienced and vetted carers across the UK, many of whom will have the skills and experience you need. Parkinson’s Disease is a disorder that affects the CNS or Central Nervous System. It causes a wide range of motor disabilities that affect movement, gait, balance, stability, expression and speech. There is no permanent cure for the ailment, and the patient gradually progresses through advanced stages of the disease with pronounced symptoms. Medication is given to help control the symptoms so that the patient can live a better quality-of-life. In recent years, Deep Brain Simulation has emerged as a?breakthrough in treating brain-related conditions?including Parkinson’s disease. https://lnkd.in/gcaEqiiv #KauveryHospital #ParkinsonsDisease #DeepBrainSimulations #Innovation #SpecialtyHealthcare #ParkinsonsDiseaseTreatment #Breakthrough

If you would like to learn more about Parkinson's and technology associated with managing its symptoms, please read the message below from my friend Milad Girgis.
As Parkinson’s Awareness Month comes to a close, please remember that awareness is not confined to 30 days. Let’s keep the conversation going about how we can continue to raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease and show our support to those living with movement disorders. In the spirit of education and awareness, click on the link below to learn more about managing the symptoms of Parkinson’s, including a procedure called deep brain stimulation (DBS) which I'm proud to oversee at Boston Scientific. DBS is a well studied and well tolerated therapy to help those living with Parkinson's regain their quality of life. #ParkinsonsAwarenessMonth?

Watery discharge from nose could be due to a serious neurological disease in some cases Watery discharge from the nose is most often caused by common cold (rhinitis). However, in some cases, discharge from the nose may actually be due to a serious neurological disease. This is called CSF rhinorrhea (leak). CSF is the abbreviation for cerebro-spinal fluid. The brain is separated from the nasal cavity by a thin bone, called as cribriform plate of ethmoid. If there is a defect/crack in this bone- either spontaneous or due to trauma- the CSF can leak out through the nose. In addition, people with CSF leak can also suffer from headache, which gets worse on sitting or standing, and is relieved on lying down. If left untreated, infection can spread through nose to brain/brain covering- causing meningitis (brain fever). So, if you notice watery discharge from the nose, especially on one side, which gets worse on bending forwards, please consult a doctor (neurologist/neurosurgeon/ENT). Timely treatment results in cure in 98% of cases.

Parkinson's disease is often misunderstood as just a condition that causes tremors. However, it's much more complex and challenging than that. Beyond the tremors, Parkinson's affects movement, causing stiffness and slow movements. It can lead to balance problems, and numerous non-motor functions like sleep, mood, cognitive abilities, and speech, which can be just as debilitating. Speech problems can make communication challenging, adding another layer of difficulty to daily interactions. Understanding the science behind our symptoms ultimately provides researchers more information about the disease- and hopefully brings us closers to better treatments and a cure. #ParkinsonsAwareness
When it comes to Parkinson's disease, there is limited understanding on how it affects a patient's speech. Stanford scientists are uncovering the brain connections that could be essential to preserving it. #SpeechScience #Medicine #Parkinsons

?? Exploring the world of health: #Amlodipine & #VascularDementia ???? Vascular dementia (VD) is a term that broadly refers to issues with reasoning, planning, judgment, memory, and other thought processes that are brought on by brain damage from decreased blood supply to the brain. Hypertension is one of the most common conditions evident in around 30-45 % of the general population and has been linked to dementia and cognitive decline. ???? Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker available under the trade name Norvasc?. It has been established that amlodipine can also be used for the treatment of hypertension, and coronary artery disease. These two diseases are considered potential risk factors for VD. ????
