Speed wins in business. But don't confuse speed with effort. Effort is outworking your competitors. Speed is outsmarting them by employing the power of focus. Here’s an example. (Yes, I’m going to talk about Drive! I’m still on a high). We really did sell out our first live event in 24 hours without discounts or ticket giveaways (average price paid was $425). And that’s largely because our team moves faster than most. But that doesn't mean we were working around the clock. We chose to focus on launching this event due to its strategic importance to our business. It was our first live event. Huge demand for it had built up over the years. A very active community was ready to create noise about this event when it launched. We also knew it was possible to sell out quickly. And that signal would trigger some nice little ripple waves across our business. While focusing on this event, we let other things lapse. We ignored other noise in our business to get this launch right. And trust me, that wasn’t easy. There are fires I know I need to put out, but I let them burn. That’s the part about “speed” most business operators don’t talk about. It’s not about having a team that works 80 hours a week (I honestly work about 30 hours a week). It’s about focus.
