Veterans Day allows us to honor those who’ve served our country both in our Rain Maker community and our communities at large, but today’s not the only day we honor these heroes. Through our non-profit partnership with K9s For Warriors, we have made a commitment to honoring their unwavering dedication throughout the year by supporting the training of service dogs for veterans. The most famous service dog we know is Rocky Rhode, a former stray turned service-dog-in-training AND presidential candidate (sponsored by Sparkling Ice!). Rocky’s spokesdog status helped raise awareness of the needs of both veterans and shelter animals around the country, before he decided to put a “paws” on his candidacy to be paired with a U.S. Marine Corps veteran as his dedicated service dog. K9s For Warriors is saving lives at both ends of the leash, and we couldn’t be prouder to be their partner. You can read more about our partnership at https://lnkd.in/g6N_A-VQ Happy Veterans Day, today and every day.

Today, several Triangle Veterans had the honor of meeting with the team at Charlie Mike, a local non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of veterans grappling with unseen wounds of combat, one veteran at a time. Charlie Mike's mission resonates with the belief that standing together at home, just as they did during wartime, can facilitate each other's journey back to a fulfilling life. During our visit, we delved into one of Charlie Mike's cornerstone programs: the Canine Battle Buddy Training Program. Dogs have proven to be invaluable companions in addressing emotional needs, with documented outcomes showing that emotional support and therapy animals significantly contribute to emotional healing and stability. These benefits are directly linked to reduced suicide rates and the cultivation of a renewed sense of purpose in veterans' lives. The team at Charlie Mike identifies and rescues dogs from animal shelters, transforming them into "battle buddies" trained to support veterans. In this process, they are not only saving the lives of these animals but also offering vital support to veterans in need. This initiative is just one of the three pillars of support that Charlie Mike offers to veterans. At Triangle, we take pride in our partnership with Charlie Mike and remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting their noble cause. If you know a veteran who could benefit from their services, please share the link with them. The battle against unseen wounds is often silent and unnoticed, but together, we can help Charlie Mike in their mission to save veterans' lives, one at a time. https://loom.ly/deOq13g

US Navy officer Paul Johnson ran from Los Angeles to New York City on a 3,000-mile transcontinental run, finishing in 51 days and 3 hours.?Let that sink in. Johnson set out with the goal to break the world record for a transcontinental run (42 days) and raise $1 million for Team Red, White & Blue, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans with their mental and physical well-being. In the end, the effort raised over half a million dollars but fell short of the world record. Due to unforeseen weather challenges and a caloric deficit impossible to recover from, Johnson abandoned the world record attempt but remained determined to finish the run. Johnson’s?crew of veterans and civilians?from the ultramarathon community supported him along the way. So break this down. ? ...A mission was established. An individual set out to accomplish an enormous undertaking, complete with a measurement plan to define success. ? ...The mission was planned methodically. Necessary fuel and gear were determined, with a logistical plan to execute the mission. ? ...Necessary support was established. A team of people were with Johnson throughout the full journey, providing him with food, gear, medical, etc. ? ...Adaptation was required. Circumstances forced change, requiring new mission parameters to be established. ? ...Perseverance wins out. The goal was accomplished, running from LA to NYC. That story sounds decidedly military, right? Doesn’t it also sound decidedly marketing? In any campaign, there’s a goal to accomplish, a method to get there, a team doing the work, and pivots made along the way. Despite the physical toll 3,000 miles can take on a body, Johnson said he’s ready to return to duty. There’s something to be learned from that, too. #MilitaryMarketing #Military #marketing?

Have you heard of #veteran #transitionstress? It's a common among separating #veterans when they leave the military since for many that is all they know. The hurdles they face are numerous: finding a new job, losing their military friends, finding purpose, and losing routine, to name a few. It is a challenging time, as many may not want to ask for help as they try to adapt to civilian life. Some #veterans have compared the experience to shedding their military "skin," much like Will Ferrell's character in Zoolander. As a US Navy #veteran myself, I experienced many of these hurdles, but was fortunate to find opportunities at veteran-friendly companies like Toll Brothers and Mercalis. If you know a veteran who's experiencing a recent transition, please show your support by connecting with them, giving them advice, or just asking how they're doing so they know they are not alone. And if you don't know a veteran, consider supporting some great charities that help veterans, like Mission 22, Irreverent Warriors, Inc., or The SUP Veterans. Please help make this transition a little easier for those who have served our country. #supportveterans #veterancharities https://lnkd.in/db-ARbHM

I want to celebrate that Shields & Stripes is able to help these 8 military folks and first responders. I don't share much about the physical, emotional, and mental challenges I had during my time in the military, but after 3 years of being retired, but after reading this post by Steven Nisbet I feel empowered and compelled to say something. Starting at MEPS and continuing through basic, AIT and every single command I supported in my 24+ year career, my leadership told me to keep my medical problems to myself. Being sick was weakness, being injured affected readiness, being depressed would cost me my clearance. I didn't go to sick call, I didn't go on quarters, I didn't report head injuries, I didn't complain about broken bones, numbness in my arms, I minimized SERIOUS medical issues in order to deploy three times, and I never seriously participated mental health therapy. The VA has been a great resource for me to start to undue some of the physical impact my body suffered, but I was never able to crack the mental health code by using VA resources. To me, I felt like an imposter, like how did my trauma compare to that of some of my peers with purple hearts and CABs? How did my trauma compare to the experiences of Vietnam era veterans like my father? After white-knuckling my way through sobriety, and starting to find value in myself as a person, I reluctantly applied for and was accepted into the Shields & Stripes program. It was through their concentrated and collaborative, whole body approach to healing that I was finally able to unpack the container I had filled with trauma, depression, moral injuries, anger, shame, guilt, anxiety, and fear. We all deserve to be whole; to be free of the burdens we carry from our experiences; to be the best version of ourselves. If you are an active duty service member or veteran, or if you are a current or retired LE professional or first responder, you should apply to the program. If you believe that those who day in and day out put their lives on the line deserve to be whole, then please consider reposting, sharing, advocating for, or donating to Shields & Stripes. Feel free to message me if you want to know more about my experience.

Honouring Our Heroes: 80 Years Since D-Day. Today marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings; and I'd like us to pause and reflect on the courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment of the brave men and women who stormed the beaches of Normandy on that fateful day in 1944. Allied Forces Unite: Troops from the UK, the USA, Canada, and France joined forces to launch the largest seaborne invasion in history. Their collective determination turned the tide of World War II, laying the foundation for an Allied victory. From Portsmouth to Normandy: On June 6, 1944, these heroes faced unimaginable challenges as they waded through the cold waters, dodging bullets and artillery fire. Their sacrifice and resilience paved the way for freedom and peace. Remembering Our Veterans: Today, we stand on the shoulders of giants—those who risked everything for our liberty. Let us remember their valour, their sacrifice, and their unwavering commitment to a better world. Supporting Our Veterans: Supporting veterans isn’t just about remembering the past; it’s about ensuring their well-being today. You can support this by advocating for mental health services, employment opportunities, and a strong support network for those who served. Learning from History: The lessons of D-Day resonate across generations. We must teach our children about the importance of unity, peace, and freedom. Their testimony serves as a timeless reminder that we must never take these precious values for granted. https://lnkd.in/eSuBiMy6 #DDay80 #RememberingHeroes Tim O'Keefe (FIRP) Nick Garland CDW UK Mark Murphy
