In my journey of creating a social enterprise focused on reforestation and sustainable agriculture, I quickly realized that turning a vision into reality requires more than passion. It demands resources, expertise, and a network of like-minded individuals—enter impact investors. ?? Crafting the Narrative: Before reaching out, I spent time refining my pitch to ensure it clearly communicated the impact I wanted to make. It wasn't just about planting trees or creating sustainable farms; it was about restoring ecosystems, providing livelihoods, and leaving a legacy. ?? Research and Discovery: I immersed myself in the world of impact investing, identifying potential partners who shared my vision. Platforms like ImpactAssets and networks such as GIIN became invaluable in my search. ?? The Art of Introduction: Building relationships was key. I leaned on my network for warm introductions and engaged in meaningful conversations that went beyond funding, focusing on shared values and goals. ?? Building Relationships: Regular follow-ups and genuine interactions helped turn potential investors into partners. It wasn’t just about the financial support—it was about working together towards meaningful change. ?? The First Commitment: Securing my first commitment from an impact investor was a milestone that validated my vision and marked the beginning of a partnership rooted in purpose. Networking with impact investors has been an enriching experience, teaching me the importance of perseverance, the value of relationships, and the power of a shared vision. This is just the beginning, and I’m excited for what lies ahead. Recent updates indicate that up to 55% of global GDP, equivalent to an estimated $58 trillion, is moderately or highly dependent on nature. How do you begin tackling biodiversity in your investment strategy? Engaging Your Leadership and Investment Teams in Impact Investing Ensure that your board, C-suite, investment teams, and investment committees grasp the essentials and opportunities of impact investing, recognising how commercial and impact returns can now coexist synergistically. Assessing Biodiversity Risk and Reallocating Investments Evaluate the systemic exposure of your portfolio to biodiversity risks. Begin with investment areas in sectors like Agri-Food and Chemicals that need divestment as soon as possible. Start by scrutinising both direct and indirect equity holdings in these sectors. Strategizing for Commercial and Catalytic Returns Map out where your capital can simultaneously achieve commercial returns and drive catalytic change. Look at funds offering commercial returns in the space e.g. Regenerate Asset Management's RESA Fund. In cases where investment opportunities are scarce, collaborate with your asset managers to develop them. Leverage established expertise to guide this process. Aligning Stakeholders and Collaborating within the Industry Maintain alignment with your key stakeholders, including other asset owners, asset managers and regulators, throughout this transformative journey. Engage with industry peers to navigate and address the challenges, ensuring the successful implementation of your impact investing strategy. Finally, remember to bring nature into all your decision making in life. Because NATURE is part of US and WE ARE PART OF NATURE. ?? Latin America and the Caribbean, home to breathtaking biodiversity hotspots like the Amazon rainforest and the tropical Andes, is witnessing a thriving impact investing scene. ?? As the region faces escalating threats such as deforestation and habitat degradation, a growing number of strategies are emerging to safeguard its invaluable natural heritage. ?? At Tameo, we identified nearly 300 funds targeting the region, with 89 funds exclusively dedicated to the region and managing a total of $6 billion in assets.
