Veterans Day: A Time for Respect, Not Judgment On Veterans Day, many Veterans find themselves feeling a mix of pride and discomfort. While the day is meant to honor those who served, not everyone feels respected or appreciated for their service. Society’s views on veterans can be complicated—ranging from genuine gratitude to indifference, and at times, outright judgment. Regardless of political affiliation, Veterans Day should be a time to come together and honor the sacrifices made by our military community. Service members come from all backgrounds and beliefs, united in a commitment to protect our nation. To my fellow veterans: Don’t be ashamed of your service. We know the courage and dedication it took to wear the uniform. Veterans Day is a reminder of our resilience and unity, no matter how society chooses to view us. Let’s honor each other with respect and pride, even if it doesn’t always come from outside. To everyone else, consider that respect and empathy go a long way. Veterans are more than their military roles—each has a unique story shaped by service, sacrifice, and an unwavering dedication to the values of our country. 11/11 Veterans Day 2024 Thank you Veterans In the USA, Veterans Day annually falls on November 11. This day is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice which ended the World War I hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918. Veterans Day in the United States is intended to honor and thank all military personnel who served the US in all wars, particularly living veterans. It is marked by parades and church services and in many places the American flag is hung at half mast. A period of silence lasting two minutes may be held at 11am. In 1926, the United States Congress officially recognized the end of World War I and declared that the anniversary of the armistice should be commemorated with prayer and thanksgiving. World War II required the largest mobilization of service men in the history of the United States and the American forces fought in Korea. In 1954, the veterans service organizations urged Congress to change the word "Armistice" to "Veterans". Congress approved this change and on June 1, 1954, November 11 became a day to honor all American veterans, where ever and whenever they had served. For 2024, President Biden encourages all Americans to recognize the valor, courage, and sacrifice of these patriots through appropriate ceremonies and private prayers and by observing two minutes of silence for our Nation’s veterans.?He also calls upon Federal, State, and local officials to display the flag of the United States of America and to participate in patriotic activities in their communities. https://lnkd.in/eVYm_W_N Further details regarding the history of Veterans Day in the USA: https://lnkd.in/eah4VQB2 #VeteransDay #ArmisticeDay #RemembranceDay #USA #November11

As a proud Military Veteran, I want to take this moment on Veteran's Day to honor the 18 million living U.S. military veterans. These exceptional men and women, representing roughly 5% of the U.S. population, are part of an elite and selfless group who willingly volunteered to step into harm’s way so others could remain safe. Veterans come from every background, each bringing a unique set of experiences, strengths, and perspectives shaped by service and sacrifice. They volunteered to put duty above self, and in doing so, they gave the rest of us the freedom to pursue our careers, raise our families, and live our lives. When they transitioned back into civilian life, many of them faced, and in some cases continue to face, new sets of challenges—the cultural shift to Corporate America. Navigating the language of business, adjusting to new workplace dynamics, and building professional networks are hurdles they know all too well. It’s not always easy, and it’s not always seamless. Today, let’s not only thank Veterans for their service but recognize the dedication they bring to every role they take on and the responsibility we have to help them make a full and healthy transition. Let’s support Veterans as they continue to grow, adapt, and lead in the business world—because the qualities that made them outstanding service members make them invaluable colleagues, mentors, and leaders in every industry. Thank you, Veterans. We owe you our respect, our support, and our gratitude every day. #VeteransDay #ThankYouVeterans #MilitaryToCivilian #VeteransInBusiness #VeteranLeadership #ServiceAndSacrifice #VeteranTransition #CorporateLeadership #GratefulNation #HireAVeteran #VeteranEmpowerment

The phrase "thank you for your service" is a common expression in the United States, used to acknowledge and honor military veterans for their dedication and sacrifices. Its origins can be traced back to the post-Vietnam War era when the nation sought ways to express gratitude and recognize the contributions of service members. During the Vietnam War, many veterans returned to a country divided by the conflict, often facing indifference or hostility rather than appreciation. As the cultural and political climate evolved, there was a growing awareness of the need to honor and support those who had served in the military. The establishment of Veterans Day as a national holiday in 1954 and the construction of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 1982 marked significant steps toward this recognition. The phrase "thank you for your service" gained prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s, particularly after the events of September 11, 2001, which reignited a sense of respect for the armed forces. It became a way for civilians to express their appreciation directly to veterans and active-duty military personnel. As a tool for gratefulness and validation, "thank you for your service" serves multiple important purposes. Firstly, it provides a simple yet powerful way to convey respect and acknowledgment. This acknowledgment can be profoundly meaningful for service members, offering a sense of appreciation that contrasts with the isolation and challenges they might face during and after their service. Secondly, it fosters a sense of national unity and collective responsibility. By expressing gratitude, individuals can contribute to a culture that values and supports its military personnel, reinforcing the importance of their role in protecting and upholding the nation's values and security. Lastly, the phrase can serve as a catalyst for broader conversations about veterans' needs and the sacrifices they make. It encourages the public to be more aware of and engaged with the issues affecting veterans, from mental health to employment, thus promoting a more supportive and inclusive society. "Thank you for your service" has evolved into a vital expression of gratitude and respect in the United States. It not only honors the individuals who serve but also strengthens the nation's collective recognition of their essential contributions, fostering a culture of appreciation and support. Other nations would do well to adopt similar practices, ensuring that their service members receive the recognition and respect they so highly deserve. #thankyouforyourservice #veterans #recognition #validation
