Indiana Women IN Tech Week Celebration Ideas! PLEASE SHARE with your networks! The inaugural Indiana Women IN Tech Week is September 15 - 22. IDEA: Collaborate with schools, colleges, and universities to promote tech education and careers among young girls and encourage them to consider careers in technology. Offer talks, workshops, or scholarship opportunities. 1. If you have a Women in Tech or Women's ERG in your organization, they can reach out to local colleges/universities and high schools to select a date for an event featuring women in tech in your organization or in your community. 2. Partner with local schools/colleges/universities to identify programming and speakers to share tech pathways with girls. You can also reach out to organizations like Indy Women in Tech or Women & Hi Tech, your local library or other local organizations to collaborate on presentations. 3. At the event, host a tech gallery walk, featuring 5-10 stops where girls can visit each table to learn about a tech career/pathway such as UI/UX, digital marketing, software development, Cloud, AI, Cybersecurity, robotics. 4. Serve refreshments and host give aways, such as scholarships, company/college gear, books on tech pathways, backpacks. Have you started planning yet? What better way to dispel those myths around women in tech than by asking them about their experiences? ?? Who are their role models? ?? How are they encouraged to pursue STEM careers at school? ?? Are the boys introduced to women in tech careers too so they can learn about the need for diversity? ?? And how can we crush the tired trope that women don't work well together? With the closure of networks like Women Who Code and Girls in Tech, Inc. women in tech have lost yet more 'space' in the industry, and it's not good enough. https://lnkd.in/eTeaV_EF We know that the last 18 months in particular has been challenging for the tech sector, but supporting organisations like these, through funding and other means, is an essential part of the journey towards the tech industry advocating for equality, inclusivity and female empowerment. Without them, women in tech have lost places that they can call home. Places where they can be inspired, where they can inspire and where they can share experiences, opportunities and look forward to what the tech industry can offer women, as working professionals. WWC and GiT have played such a crucial role in changing the culture of the tech industry, with an aim for the industry to become far more inclusive and welcoming to women, and their efforts to help combat stereotypes and biases, have been profound. So much has been accomplished by these two incredible organisations, and whilst their journeys have come to an end, the legacies that they've left HAVE to live on. According to recent figures by Women in Tech UK, Women represent just 19% of the tech workforce, so this is our cry to you, to do more to engage, retain and empower women in technology! Join forces with the likes of Code First Girls, Next Tech Girls, Rewriting the Code and Women in Tech UK, encourage women and girls to start a career in the sector and do all you can to support and retain in them in an industry that isn't just for men.

As a co-founder?and co-organiser of the Berlin chapter of Ladies that UX?I find this extremely sad and alarming news. Two nonprofit orgs that made great impacts for the women in tech community?are shutting down: Women who code closed their doors already in April due lack of funding, now its girls in tech... Regarding Ladies that UX:?One organiser of another Ladies that UX chapter??reported they barely find hosts for their events and that she is in contact with other local communities that have exactly the same experiences. At the same time?different sources report (business insider, IGN, see first comment) that microsoft is shutting down one of its most important diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) teams "as they see DEI programs n longer as business critical."? (!) I somehow feel like?for every step we took forward now its like going?to go 2 backwards.?These initiatives and communities are important ! How can we sustain our communities without costs?

Aurora Tech Award 2025 Opens Applications for Women Founders in Tech The Aurora Tech Award, an annual global prize for women founders of tech startups, has announced the opening of applications for its 2025 edition. This initiative aims to support and recognize women innovators in the technology sector, addressing the persistent gender gap in tech entrepreneurship. The award offers a total prize pool of $85,000: *$30,000 first-place winner *$20,000 the second-place *$15,000 the third-place Additionally, 20 finalists will each receive $1,000. Beyond financial support, the award provides winners with valuable networking opportunities, PR support, and mentorship from industry experts to fuel their business growth. The application period runs until November 21st, 2024, with the award ceremony scheduled for spring 2025. Not many things in life scare me anymore, but the fact that organizations like WomenWhoCode and now Girls in Tech are closing is really alarming. Bringing more women into the tech sector has always been a passion of mine, and there is still so much more to be done in this field. Seeing that the organizations driving these changes are shutting down tells me that things are only going to get worse. Please share this and make it news. We should not ignore it as if nothing has happened. This is big and alarming. I will link articles in the comment section.
