One month ago, I embarked on my first professional journey by relocating to a new city for my Summer Internship at Realtime (RTAF). This experience has been nothing short of transformative, both personally and professionally. As an intern, I was entrusted with significant responsibilities, including orchestrating investor onboarding, delving into fund operations, and meticulously analyzing startup pitches. These tasks allowed me to develop a comprehensive understanding of the angel investing landscape and sharpen my skills in investment analysis and decision-making. Moving to an unfamiliar place was a daunting challenge, especially considering it was my first work experience. There were days when the thought of giving up and going back home crossed my mind. However, I chose to persevere, driven by my dedication to professional and personal development. This journey taught me the value of resilience, adaptability, and the courage to face uncertainty head-on. My time at Real Time Angel Fund has equipped me with the essential skills to thrive in this VUCA world. 39% of Harlem Capital’s intern alums have held full time VC positions! I went through HCP’s intern program too! So did Gabby Cazeau, a Partner at the firm now. Nicole: Intern ?? Principal Gabby: Intern ?? Partner Our internship is a 10-week program that occurs 3 times per year, with winter, summer and fall cohorts. Each cohort consists of 6 interns and 1-2 fellows (returning interns). We’ve had 111 interns over the last 6 years. The impact that the HCP intern program has had is undeniable. - 39% of intern alums have held full time VC positions - 9% of all Black & Latino investors in the ecosystem are HCP intern alums - 2% of all Black & Latino checkwriters in VC are HCP intern alums And our interns have a meaningful impact on HCP. - 2 of the 60 investments HCP has made were sourced by interns - 3+ of the 60 HCP investments have had intern alums as co-investors - 1 intern alum is an HCP LP It’s clear that Harlem Capital is making and moving the diversity market.
