The World Health Organization new data reveals a scary trend with projections that are confronting. Physical inactivity puts adults at greater risk of cardiovascular diseases such as #heartattacks and #strokes, #type2diabetes, #dementia and #cancers such as breast and colon. Now, we hear this type of information so regularly that it becomes ‘white noise’ to us. And that is understandable because the recommendations seem unachievable, and the marketing around what ‘health & fitness’ looks like is mostly unhelpful. When I was working as an Exercise Physiologist, part of my job was to remove barriers to clear a pathway for people to achieve their goals. Now, both of my Businesses have this as a central theme. Something I learned over the years is that even if I could write an absolute ‘Gold Standard’ Exercise Program for someone (according to the exercise science), mostly it was unattainable & unsustainable for them. To promote adherence, it is crucial to make the plan fit the person. And part of setting the landscape for that is to get people ‘open’ to thinking about what they can do to assist themselves.
