As a Chicago-based legal recruiter (and a former Chicago-based litigator), I would be remiss to not provide a quick?mid-year market update?for all my #Chicago lawyers out there! So what’s been going on? ?? Demand for legal talent in the Chicago lateral market held steady between the first half of last year and the first half of this year (with a very slight uptick this year). The three hottest practice areas in Q1/Q2 of 2023 and 2024 remained litigation, corporate, and IP, but demand for insurance practitioners skyrocketed in the first half of this year, while we also saw a slight uptick in demand for data privacy attorneys. As for what seems to be trending moving into Q3, my team and I are seeing increased demand for associates in the corporate, trusts & estates, and labor & employment practice groups.
