Good news from the deep! ?? The Nordic Council, which includes Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and ?land, has voted IN FAVOR of a resolution calling for a moratorium on #DeepSeaMining. ?? Among these member nations, Denmark, Finland, and Sweden have already declared their own formal opposition to this destructive practice, calling for a 'precautionary pause' until more comprehensive and concrete scientific research can be done to determine the true impacts of the industry. This historic milestone sends a clear message to members Iceland and Norway, who have thus far been outspokenly in favor of deep-sea mining exploration, that this will not be tolerated under the Council. We're calling this another win for the fight to #DefendTheDeep. ? Interested in doing your part to protect the deep sea? Great to see the Nordic Council take a stand against deep-sea mining! A precautionary pause is vital to ensure the protection of fragile ecosystems until science can fully uncover its impacts. A big step forward for the fight to #DefendTheDeep!
