Trump just unveiled "Stargate," a $500 billion AI infrastructure initiative led by Microsoft, OpenAI, SoftBank, NVIDIA?& Oracle dedicated to building AI in America ?????? This project, which is the largest AI infrastructure project in American history, will reportedly invest $500B into the US economy over the next 4 years and create over 100,000 American jobs. To put this into perspective, here's the inflation-adjusted dollars spent on other large undertakings: - Interstate Highway System: ~$650B - Apollo Program: ~$280B - Manhattan Project: ~$35B Fascinating times ahead ?? Rousseau reminds us: technological advancement alone does not create a better society. As we witness the $500bn investment in Stargate AI and the rollback of AI regulations, this wisdom becomes particularly poignant. While we race toward AI dominance, we risk overlooking Rousseau's core insight: technological sophistication can actually weaken rather than strengthen our social bonds. Stargate AI may promise groundbreaking capabilities, but a society's true progress isn't measured by the power of its machines, but by the quality of its human connections. The crucial question isn't how fast we can develop AI, but how we can harness it to serve genuine human flourishing.
Let’s hope this deal works out better than the much publicized 10bn Foxconn investment in Wisconsin announced by Trump and Terry Gou at a similar event at the beginning of Trump 1.0… in Wisconsin Foxconn eventually deployed less than 10% of the promised capital… and neither the display facility nor many of the jobs were established. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisconn_Valley_Science_and_Technology_Park https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/articles/president-trump-welcomes-foxconn-white-house-major-jobs-announcement/
The bifurcation of AI approaches has started: the USA launches the $100bn (grow to $500bn over 4 years) #Stargate, China releases #Deepseek showcasing a less resource intensive approach while being profitable. Not sure where the UK’s approach stands with its 50 recommendations action plan.
I'm sure the EU will try to regulate this. Swedish job ads currently have almost no mention of AI. If so, it's a ban on using ChatGPT in the job.
This is the type of boldness that Europe is lacking.
Finally common sense is in the white house. ??
But forget ethics and compliance....
