It is a day to look within ourselves to?acknowledge and share the unique abundance in each of our lives:?How am I showing up for my neighbors today? How can I challenge attitudes of scarcity, when I know that our community has each other's backs??What can I do today to make sure my neighbors know they can count on our community safety net? 2024 is the hungriest year our community has ever seen.?CEAP is on track for a record amount of food served as we see the highest need for our Food Market in our 52-year history. At the same time, we know that?many neighbors face barriers?- like mobility challenges and lack of access to transportation – that prevent them from reaching CEAP’s doors.?That’s where “CEAP On the Move” steps in.? We’re inspired by Food Strong, a Cleveland-based nonprofit taking bold steps toward food justice and sustainability. Their latest initiative, the Superior Farm Fix-Up, is an ambitious 5-year project to transform a vacant property at Superior Avenue and East 67th Street into a thriving urban farm and community resource hub. ?? In the heart of Cleveland, this effort will: ? Combat systemic food insecurity using regenerative agriculture to supply affordable, healthy produce to local residents and schools. ? Provide educational programs, skills training, and entrepreneurial opportunities. ? Serve as a community-driven hub where people can access affordable food, resources, and small business support. By emphasizing collaboration and sustainability, Food Strong is creating more than a farm—it’s building resilience and opportunity for Northeast Ohio. How You Can Help: ?? Donate: Food Strong needs funding to restore the property’s 7,000-square-foot house and achieve their $6 million vision. ?? Volunteer: Over 300 volunteers have already contributed, and more hands are welcome to make this dream a reality. ?? Spread the word: Awareness drives impact. Big news – Hubbub’s ‘Eat It Up Fund’ has backed 13 game-changing food waste solutions, including us, with funding provided by Starbucks. This support allows us to empower school chefs to take on a bigger role?– creating delicious, nutritious meals, cutting food waste, and inspiring children to learn about food in new ways. With 96,000 tonnes of food wasted in schools every year, there’s a lot of work to do, and we’re excited to keep making a bigger impact. In Michigan, nearly 12% of people face food insecurity, and many of our community members face barriers to accessing nutritious food. Food insecurity has soared over the past few years, making it more important than ever to create a future where our food system is equitable, sustainable, and equipped to meet southeast Michigan’s needs. At our foundation, we support a number of nonprofit organizations, including Fair Food Network, Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan, Forgotten Harvest, Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and Make Food Not Waste, who are working to increase food access, destigmatized food insecurity, and provide education and resources so that people throughout our region can thrive.
