Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund buys stake in US software group Qlik https://lnkd.in/gXmyF5VQ Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund is buying a large stake in data analytics software company Qlik at a valuation of about $10bn, as appetite grows among Middle Eastern investors for businesses owned by the world’s biggest buyout groups. The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (Adia) will invest about $1bn into Qlik as part of a deal that will see its private equity owner Thoma Bravo sell on the US-based software group among its other funds, according to three people briefed on the matter. OneStream Software IPO’d last week at a valuation of $4.6B at the price of $20 a share. For those of you not keeping track, this is only the third IPO since December 2021 (??). It was a good IPO indeed, so let’s dig in a bit. OneStream is a software suite from the Corporate Performance Management (CPM) category, also known as Enterprise Performance Management (EPM). It focuses on planning and analysis while supporting processes such as closing and consolidation. CPM solutions never reached mass adoption. First introduced by Hyperion in 1981, they have not achieved widespread adoption due to their high cost, lengthy implementation, and user-hostile design. Until recently, these solutions were primarily used by large international corporations. Thanks to market volatility and the rise of modern planning solutions like Farseer, the dusty CPM category starts to look sexy. Two key factors driving OneStream's IPO success are: 1?? The Office of the CFO is one of the last areas to be automated, still relying heavily on Excel and manual processes. With increasing workloads and a shortage of skilled FP&A and Controlling professionals, there's a significant Total Addressable Market (TAM) for modern planning solutions. 2?? The CPM market is still dominated by legacy vendors like Oracle, SAP, Infor, and IBM, who do not prioritize planning. This creates a huge opportunity for challengers like OneStream, Farseer, and Pigment. What’s interesting in the OneStream story? ?? It’s a great example of a company with <$500M in ARR doing a successful IPO ?? The company was founded in 2010 - SaaS is a marathon, not a sprint. ?? They reached Unicorn status while bootstrapped. Not taking a single investor dime for 8 years. ?? CEO & co-founder?Tom Shea co-founded UpStream Software, which Hyperion acquired (then Oracle) in 2006. This probably explains the bootstrapping, at least in part. ?? OneStream went from $100m ARR in 2020 to $200m in 2021, $300m in 2022 and $450m in 2023. ARR growth has slowed to 34% YoY, but this is still a remarkable streak. ?? OneStream is a sticky product that also expands licenses on the existing customer base (98% GRR and 118% NRR) ?? OneStream has 1,423 customers which means their average deal size is around $337k. This is the real enterprise. In the enterprise land, the sales cycles are long, but the deals are big and churn is negligible. It will be interesting to see OneStream's next moves after raising nearly half a billion from their IPO.
