When did the first chatbot emerge? 1966. "Eliza" simulated a therapist and revealed the human tendency to attribute understanding and empathy to machines—known as the "Eliza Effect." This was in 1966! Today, we've seen this phenomenon evolve into what we're calling the "Conversational Effect," where AI actively *influences* humans through natural language interactions. What do I mean? One client told us that their email RPR (revenue per recipient) is $2 when email was collected through pop-ups and other conventional means. When collected through Rep's conversational interface, their RPR doubled to $4 RPR. The explanation from their side? "I don't know. I just know it works." We believe natural language conversations unlocks more opportunities for online stores. We'll keep an eye on this, especially as AI gets better over time. I'm curious what type of shift (or re-emergence?) will take place as AI continues to become more prevalent as something we talk to and interact with...
