"Like Li-ion batteries, Na-ion batteries come in many chemistry variants. However, these tend to use fewer, or even no, critical minerals. Na-ion batteries use hard carbon rather than graphite as the anode material, and some variants contain no lithium, nickel, cobalt or manganese in the cathode. Switching to sodium does come with downsides. Because sodium ions are larger and heavier than lithium ions, more anode and cathode materials are needed to store the same amount of energy.
