Attention civil servants!! ?? After attending the Brilliant North East Networking Event, I can’t recommend it enough to current or future civil servants. Here are few things I took from the event: - Apprenticeships- Spoke with apprenticeship recruiters who view recruits as the future of the firm, not just cheap labor. The professional development opportunities they offer are impressive! You can secure some names and emails- would be great for future applications. - Job shadowing opportunities- Liaised with the other departments in my own office, helping me to expand my knowledge and improve my capabilities in my current role, whilst also securing a job shadowing opportunity. - Networking- A highlight of the day was the presentation with the Economic Serious and Organised Crime Committee. I didn’t even know roles like this existed. Not only did it open my eyes to the endless career paths within the civil service, but I also left with many contacts whom I looked up to, unlocking many valuable resources and mentorship opportunities. If you're seeking professional development and a deeper understanding of career opportunities, I highly recommend attending these events. Surveying Apprenticeships : looking at last years data, there were very few Level 3 Surveying apprentices in London. However if you look at labour market information, since September 2023 there have been 1,563 unique job vacancy listings but these have been posted 3,327 Therefore there is a clear industry demand. Having spoken to a range of employers, part of the issue is recruitment. We are here to help. As the largest college group in London, we have over 35,000 students every year. If you decide to employ and develop staff, the apprenticeship route is an excellent way to do this. We can advertise, shortlist and prepare for interview a range of suitable applicants, and then enrol them onto the Level 3 apprenticeships to support the development of their skills. The training cost is covered under the Apprenticeship Levy, and if you don't have that, we can support you in transferring Levy to you. We do not charge for this recruitment service, as our mission is to support local people into local jobs. Full-time university never quite appealed, and after conversations with career advisors and teachers at 6th form, I realized that a degree apprenticeship was the perfect choice for me as you get practical on-the-job experience with a part-time university course, offering the best of both worlds. My journey with WCP and Salford University in Quantity Surveying began in 2020, and with 18 months remaining at university from a 5-year course I still love every minute of it. The apprenticeship process has been a great experience. It has allowed me to get 'real world' experience in Quantity Surveying and given me more experiences as this age then most other people would have which has been a huge benefit to everyday tasks and university assignments. WCP's support has been second to none on my apprenticeship journey. The company goes above and beyond to provide guidance and assistance. Whether it's answering questions or offering insights into various aspects of the job. Being dyslexic, I've found WCP to be very accommodating, offering additional resources to aid my work.
