Career talk with 4th-8th graders from Socorro ISD was a success!
What was made clear is that it’s crucial to start discussing the range of opportunities available to students, especially in fields that will be vital in the coming decades. Given the rapidly evolving job market, especially with the rise of green jobs and roles focused on climate and sustainability, it’s clear that today’s students need to be aware of these emerging fields. The workforce of the future will not only require technical expertise but also a broad range of skills and perspectives, including those focused on thought leadership, policy, and justice.
Integrating discussions about climate and technology careers into career showcases can help prepare students for these future opportunities. It’s also essential to emphasize the importance of diversity in these fields, as marginalized communities often face the greatest challenges from climate change and thus have a vital role in shaping solutions and policies.
After Saturday's career showcase, it was made apparent that Peek Counsel can play a pivotal role in developing a climate career pipeline for students in our community, for our voices are needed more than ever in those spaces.?
