Modular Construction: A Point of View This is a pretty balanced article describing the current state of modular construction in the U.S. It notes that there are perceived and real benefits, perceived and real drawbacks and a current state that is growing but not in proportion to global trends. We believe that the reason for the slower development in the U.S. is actually quite simple. Modular housing is most prominent in multi-family residential. This is taking off for modular constructors like Assembly OSM , Modern Living Solutions and RISE Modular. But there are two critical roadblocks. First, the mix of single family residential to multi family in the U.S. is different from other places. The second factor is that most of our urban cores have been choked by regulation and permitting processes that prevent faster residential development. We have no doubt that if housing demand in New York, San Francisco and other cities were to be actually met that the great bulk of those houses would be modular. We don't see anything significant changing in America's love of single-family residential, but if we want to see greater, faster, better fabrication opportunities, open up the cities. https://loom.ly/MmXG1OQ #modular #prefabrication #construction #architecture
