With 100 days to go until the Paris Olympics, it is unlikely that transgender athletes will participate in the Olympic Games. This comes as no surprise after the wave of changes to the regulations of several sports governing bodies, which brought stricter restrictions on eligibility for women’s events. At next week’s spring meeting of Junges Netzwerk Sportrecht X Women In Sports Law - WISLaw next week, Dr Tsubasa Shinohara and I – as one of three panels on hot topics around the 2024 Olympics – will discuss the reasons behind the regulations adopted by the sports governing bodies and explore the possibility of inclusion of transgender athletes in future events.
