?? Inspiring the next generation of designers! Thank you to IDEAS (Interior Designers for Education and Sustainability) at Virginia Tech College of Architecture, Arts, and Design for inviting our very own Amy Johnson to speak at today's lunchtime series. As a Hokie alum, Amy was honored to share insights on bridging student and professional careers with this passionate group. IDEAS, a student-led organization, enhances learning through interior design, sustainability, and service activities—a mission we proudly support! It was also a privilege to visit Burruss Hall, an iconic symbol of the Virginia Tech campus. GO HOKIES! #StrataProjectManagement #FutureDesigners #HokiePride #LeadershipInDesign #BurrussHall #LeavingBehindMore

It just takes a curved line Curved walls possess a unique ability to evoke feelings of togetherness and inclusion within a space. Unlike their straight-edged counterparts, curved walls gently embrace and encircle those within, creating a sense of unity and cohesion. The fluidity of their form suggests a seamless connection, symbolizing the interconnectedness of individuals and fostering a sense of belonging. In spaces adorned with curved walls, boundaries soften, and barriers dissolve, inviting people to come together, share experiences, and engage in meaningful interactions. These walls serve as a visual reminder of our collective journey and the importance of community, encouraging collaboration, empathy, and mutual support. #together #curves #architecture #design #sacregeometry #interiordesign image SettDesign

My new book, Misfits & Hybrids: Architectural Artifacts for the 21st-Century City, is now available at Routledge, Amazon, and other bookstores. The book proposes a novel approach to design in contemporary cosmopolitan cities by integrating their many accidental and residual forms into a new kind of hybrid architecture. This approach offers an alternative way of experiencing and designing the city, challenging conventional notions of cultural significance and aesthetic preferences. In our precarious environmental times, the book also presents its own version of "adaptive reuse," in which all elements constituting the city are viewed as potentially valuable resources. The unique project depictions aim for a new variant within the genre of architectural fantasy drawing, carefully choreographing a play between conditions both real and fictitious. Developed between 2016 and 2022 in my Design Research studios at UPenn's Weitzman School of Design, the book explores the ideas, precedents, and techniques that undergird this work and is illustrated with 200 high-quality images. A very special thanks to all my students for their commitment and enthusiasm, and to my TAs, Michael Zimmerman, Caleb Ehly, and Megan York. The devil is in the details, as they might say, but we strongly believe that concepts can be transformed into detailed, vibrant realities. Product visualizations empower the creation of perfect scenarios, allowing items to shine authentically within realistic environments. This architectural visualization project features the detailed virtual reproduction of the Alfred Street Residence designed by?studiofour architects. With careful attention both to detail and mood we worked to give the interior a virtual image. #realestatevisualization #productvisualization #visualizationsstudio

In the realm of architecture and design, the harmonious application of color theory goes beyond mere aesthetics; it profoundly impacts the human psyche and sense of comfort within a space. From the calming effect of cool tones to the energizing properties of warm hues, the psychological parameters of color play a pivotal role in shaping our emotional response to our surroundings. As architects, we wield color as a powerful tool, creating environments that evoke specific moods and enhance overall well-being. By understanding the psychological effects of color, architects can strategically employ hues to influence behavior and improve quality of life. Whether it's fostering creativity in workspaces through the use of stimulating colors or promoting relaxation in residential settings with soothing palettes, the thoughtful application of color theory enhances not only the visual appeal of a space but also its functionality and comfort. Let's harness the transformative power of color to craft environments that resonate with our innate human experiences and enrich our lives. #ColorTheory #Architecture #DesignPsychology #HumanComfort #interiordesign

?? Exploring the Intersection of Human Behaviour and Color Theory in Architecture ??? Excited to present my latest project on how color theory influences human behavior within architectural spaces! The study highlights how specific colors impact mood, perception, and decision-making—shaping experiences in homes, offices, and public spaces. Key Insights: ?? Red: Stimulates energy, passion, and urgency ?? Blue: Promotes calmness, trust, and focus ?? Green: Enhances relaxation and balance, often linked with nature ?? Yellow: Evokes happiness, creativity, and optimism This project aims to demonstrate how thoughtful use of colors in architecture can improve emotional well-being, boost productivity, and foster positive interactions within built environments. Let’s talk about how we can use color as a tool to design spaces that inspire better living! #ColorTheory #HumanBehaviour #Architecture #DesignPsychology #MoodAndSpace #SpatialDesign

Every design we create, every foundation we lay, and every piece of research we conduct is an extension of our identity and a reflection of who we truly are. In 2012, JMA was established with a clear mission: to build spaces that have an everlasting impact, born from a desire not just to meet a project brief but to create something that truly resonates. Our goal is to shatter the glass ceiling of conventional design. Our approach is not just about creating spaces; it’s about curating experiences that evoke emotion and tell a compelling story. Whether we're working on residential, commercial, or urban projects, each design is infused with intent and passion. We’re committed to shaping a future that honours the past and embraces the present with all we’ve got. It’s been quite the journey so far and I’m thrilled to share JMA’s journey with you all. I’m excited to dive deeper on this platform, sharing my thoughts and connecting with fellow design enthusiasts who are just as passionate about the craft. #Architecture #DesignStudio #InteriorDesign #UrbanDesign #DesignPhilosophy #BrandEthos #DesignStudio #ArchitecturalPractice #JMAJourney?

Why Do We Feel Relaxed When We See Natural Scenes? Biophilia Hypothesis and Evolutionary Perspective The Biophilia Hypothesis suggests that humans possess an innate connection to nature. Having evolved in natural environments, our brains are inherently attuned to these settings. As a result, encountering natural scenes can evoke a sense of familiarity and comfort. This profound connection helps explain why spending time in nature or observing natural landscapes often leads to a calming and restorative effect on our mental state. Consequently, incorporating natural environments into design—whether in architecture, urban planning, or interior spaces—can significantly enhance the well-being of individuals who inhabit or interact with these spaces. By integrating elements of nature into our surroundings, we can create environments that support mental health and overall quality of life.#WellnessDesign #Neuroarchitecture #Architecture #InteriorDesign #HouseDesign #wellnessArchitecture#ArchitectureDesign#Architecturaljournalism#wellnessArchitecture#Biophilia#WellnessDesign #Neuroarchitecture #InteriorDesign #wellnessArchitecture #ArchitectureDesign

His work visually defies Gravity. Flows like art. Makes you think just how infinite the possibilities are when it comes to design. Frank Gehry. A legend in the world of architecture. More than designing buildings; he creates art that reshapes the way we think about space. It’s always a good day to look at his work for inspiration like the Guggenheim Museum or the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Or the dancing house - just the name is enough to get an idea about how the building may look. One thing he always says that sticks with me is, "Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness." And honestly, that's exactly what his work does. It’s like, when you see a Gehry building, you know it belongs to this moment in time, yet you can imagine people admiring it a hundred years from now. His designs aren’t just modern they’re future-proof, in a way. Timeless. #FrankGehry #DesignInspiration #Innovation #OfficeDesign #SereinSpaces
