Introducing Andromeda: Our next-generation rapidly reusable upper stage engine. With an integrated metal heat shield—and named after our closest galactic neighbor – Andromeda is designed to make our upper stage reusable without inspections between flights. We’ve evolved Andromeda to have fewer parts, less complexity, and better performance than our previous version. We’ve streamlined everything to make it simpler, lighter, and easier to operate, all while packing even more performance punch.??
So, while building your first Full Flow Staged Combustion engine for the first stage. You have also been iterating on your second stage engine. What can't you all do?
This is really interesting and it feels like an approximation of an aerospike in many ways.
Stoke Space Andromeda could change the economics of spaceflight. Most rockets reuse only the first stage, but making upper stages reusable could cut launch costs by 50% or more. Are we moving toward a future where daily orbital launches become possible?
If I'm interpreting this image correctly, are those the 1st/2nd stage recessed interface mating points located in a ring just inboard of the nozzles?
That’s a cool idea! I’m curious about the weight increase caused by adopting this strategy instead of a ceramic heat shield. Also, is the propellant loss during reentry—when the engines are not operating—manageable?
That is definitely cool ?? looking. Great idea ??
The universe is made not of matter, but perceptions.
Thermal processing equipment for development and commercialization of 'materials inspired' products. High temperature, vacuum and controlled atmosphere industrial furnaces.
2 周Why are you making the heat shield tiles from metal? I produced furnaces for development/ production of ceramic 'heat shield tiles' and other advanced ceramics which are quite efficient at heat dissipation, or in electronics for use as heat sinks.
