I know it's tempting to push recruitment to the New Year, especially with how busy end of year can be... But, here's why you should start looking before Christmas: January is a competitive time in the job market, so starting your search now can help you beat the rush... As the year ends, many candidates are starting to consider their options for the New Year which creates a better candidate pool... Hiring now means you can finalise matters before Christmas and have someone ready to hit the ground running in January... Starting a process in January may mean you won't have someone in the role until MARCH... or even later... End of year can be hectic, but it can also see things slowing down. Make use of this less competitive and quieter period to give yourself the best options.

Sometimes, the right thing to do is to let go. Today, I spoke with a talented candidate who was looking for an opportunity that matched her skills and experience. We discussed the role, her expectations, and what she needed to feel valued in her next career move. Unfortunately, the pay rate I could offer didn’t align with her needs. I knew other recruiters were able to offer her a higher rate, and I made the decision to advise her to pursue those opportunities instead. Why? Because it wasn’t just about filling a position—it was about doing what’s right for the person on the other side of the conversation. I wanted her to know that her worth matters and that there are recruiters, like myself, who genuinely want to see her succeed—even if it means letting her go to someone else. This moment reminded me of why I entered this field: to support people, to be honest in my guidance, and to prioritize their best interests above all else. To all my fellow recruiters, hiring managers, and professionals: let's remember that recruitment isn’t just about numbers or targets. It’s about people, their dreams, and their futures. If you’ve ever had a similar experience, I’d love to hear your story. Let’s keep striving to make this industry more human, one conversation at a time. #RecruitmentWithHeart #CareerGrowth #PeopleFirst #HumanConnection #TalentAcquisition #DoingWhatsRight #RecruiterLife #CareerSupport #EthicalRecruitment #ProfessionalGrowth #HelpingOthersSucceed #WorkplaceStories #JobSearchJourney #PayItForward

"Resume gaps used to be clear negative signals. Today, they fall short of telling the whole story of a potential hire’s work ethic, reliability, and employment readiness. But this was an unclear picture in the past, too." Interesting read on how 'resume gaps' are interpreted (including our assumptions and biases), the bigger picture, and ways to minimise the impact. However, simply put I think the key is still in telling the story and making it clear for the recruiter / hiring manager - because often the details are widely known via social media and the like already! And for the recruiter / hiring manager, to still work through understanding a pattern of work and approach through the selection process. Your thoughts? https://lnkd.in/gBBm8Qkk

A lot of jobseekers have been asking over the past few months about why the job market has gone cold again after the jump in hiring in April/May earlier this year. There's a lot of reasons for the slowdown over the summer, (on avg, 20-30% drop off in job postings), and why companies typically scale back hiring and have slower interview processes... ?? Holidays - probably the number one reason for delays in application feedback interviews being arranged, offers being passed on. Could be as simple as 1 person in the hiring team being off for a week and it can push things back for twice as long ????♂? ?? Strategic Planning: A lot of organisations will devise hiring plans that will involve hiring in bulk over more favourable time periods (e.g. February to May) and then spend the next few months focusing on onboarding/settling the new staff before returning to the job market for the next wave of new hires. Also gives hiring teams a chance to reassess their needs and any new priorities from projects that have been launched. Fortunately with a fall always comes a rise, so jobseekers can look forward to an increase in vacancies being posted over the next few months before the gradual slowdown before December. My main advice to the jobseekers/career-changers for the interim periods: network and upskil yourself wherever you can. The best way to give your job search that extra edge is to put yourself in front of as many people as possible (to find the right ones) and have something extra to give them in comparison to others ?? #TechHiring #HiringAdvice #Jobseeker

The #1 question we get this time of year: “Is December a bad time to recruit?” The short answer: absolutely not! In fact, we highly recommend kicking off your hiring efforts in December. This creates a golden opportunity for your organization to stand out and attract top talent. ? Get Ahead of New Year Job Seekers Job seekers often plan to make career moves at the start of the new year. By recruiting in December, you’ll engage these motivated candidates early, before others do. ? Start the New Year with Momentum By starting with the ProFound group before the holidays, you’ll have a team actively working on your open roles while you’re out. Come January, you’ll return to built-in momentum—no slow starts, no scrambling to meet hiring goals.
