Opinion: Incredible how quickly this was invented!! Such an inspiration.. picture this.. There are a total of 120 Hurricane names that get rotated every six years (i.e. Alberto was the first named storm of the 2024 season and will appear on the list again in six years)… Imagine a competition show where artists write songs with these storm names in advance (20 per year).. and a portion of the streaming revenue from the songs goes toward relief efforts (for all natural disasters!). Legacy artists could participate too (ex. Rolling Stones can change Angie song to storm name Mindy) but the real competition would be for up-and-coming artists. The sad thing is that it's almost guaranteed that at least one of the 20 storm names (per season) will be associated with a major catastrophic weather event… but hopefully the songs can produce feelings of wellbeing, reflection and most importantly, much needed resources to affected communities… Rooting for Albert and all his people in LA!!

?? From Music to Action ?? As the 2025 Grammy Awards approach, the spotlight shifts from music to providing vital support for communities in need. In light of the Los Angeles wildfires, the Recording Academy and MusiCares have shifted priorities, directing resources to aid victims with an initial $1 million donation, now expected to expand to $2 million. Several high-profile organisations have cancelled their usual pre-Grammy events and redirected funds to support wildfire-affected communities. Key Grammy Week events, including the MusiCares Persons of the Year Gala, will now redirect their resources to aid wildfire victims. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr has said that they “have some great things in the show that will definitely help raise funds, it will honour some of the heroes… It will shine a light on some people that need more help”. I look forward to seeing what's in store to raise awareness. The Grammy Awards are demonstrating how events have the opportunity to drive real change.
