?? Proud to Have Partners Who Share Our Commitment to Sustainability ?? Sustainability is a key part of our #values, and we are excited to share an important step forward. Our S.T.I. (U.K.) Ltd. subsidiary’s trusted partner, Marine & Cargo, has become the first in the UK to integrate #SchmitzCargobull’s all-electric S.KOe COOL trailer into their fleet, supporting our commitment to reducing emissions while maintaining high standards of service. ?? By adopting these #zeroemission trailers, Marine & Cargo has eliminated around 200 litres of diesel per week. What makes this achievement even more special is the integration with a Mercedes-Benz Actros Gigaspace tractor unit running on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), bringing us closer to our sustainability goals with every step we take. ???? The trailer, proudly displaying both the Marine & Cargo and STI Freight Management logos, is a testament to the #trust and #collaboration between our teams. We want to extend a special thank you to Marine & Cargo Andrew Marshall for their bold investment in sustainable #technology, and we are excited to see the positive long-term impact it will have. ?? To improve air quality, U$1.5 billion is being directed towards the adoption of zero-emission vehicles for freight transportation. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will receive U$1 billion to replace heavy-duty vehicles, like delivery trucks, and develop charging infrastructure. Of this total, U$400 million will focus on mitigating air and noise pollution. The Department of Transportation will allocate U$400 million to improve air quality for truck drivers, port workers, and neighboring communities, to reduce pollution. The Department of Energy will provide U$72 million for a SuperTruck: Charged program, demonstrating integration between vehicles and grids for cost-effective recharging and greater grid resilience. States like California and Texas will receive funds for port improvements and rapid deployment of electric vehicles (EVs). Companies such as Schneider National and Daimler Truck North America, among others, are investing in electric vehicles and charging infrastructure to comply with emissions laws. The maritime and air transport sectors are also committed to transitioning to green fuels, while railroads are exploring hydrogen-powered locomotives. #SupplyChain #WhiteHouse #ZeroEmission #Sustainability #Logistics #Freight #Digital #CNILINK

The Path to Decarbonizing US Freight Transportation My series with Rish Ghatikar, formerly a leader in energy at Berkeley Lab and General Motors, on truck electrification with charging microgrids continues. Full article: https://lnkd.in/gVTf8jfa Transportation is now the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the US, surpassing power generation. Within freight, trucking alone contributes 30% of the sector's emissions, despite making up just 5% of road vehicles. Freight trucking holds the most immediate potential for decarbonization, but it faces structural and technological challenges, mostly around getting electricity into the trucks. Electric trucks are proving their viability with lower operating costs, long ranges, and rapid technological advancements. Meanwhile, other freight modes are stalled: rail is constrained by private ownership and resistance to electrification, and water freight is hampered by outdated policies like the Jones Act and a lack of modern shipbuilding capacity. Only road freight has the conditions for success for decarbonization and it will take more container freight from rail especially in the coming years, as electric trucks are already lower carbon than rail in 8 US states and increasing yearly, and electric trucks cost less to run. The next article in the series will dive deeper into the specific barriers to electric trucking and propose solutions to unlock its full potential. Freight transportation in the US can decarbonize—and it starts with leveraging electrification where it's most viable. #freight #USA #trucks #climateaction

Finnlines is set to launch a new UK freight service using hybrid ro-ro vessels, part of its strategy to?expand its network and offer sustainable shipping options. The new vessels will be equipped with advanced propulsion technologies designed to lower emissions, including air lubrication systems, battery banks and solar panels. “Finnlines continues to strengthen its services with increased cargo capacity for the UK market. Our new hybrid ro-ro vessels will provide a greener and more efficient option for customers,” said Merja Kallio-Mannila, commercial director,?Finnlines. Clean connections Starting in September, Finnlines new freight service from Finland to Peel Ports’ London Medway, will further connections available to Belgium, Spain and Ireland. Routes will be operated by three Finneco-class hybrid ro-ro vessels, each with a cargo capacity of 5,800 lane metres, or around 400 trailers. The innovative vessel layout enables faster and more efficient loading and unloading operations besides enhanced flexibility to load any type of cargo, long, heavy up to a height of seven metres. Finnlines new connection will provide customers with shorter transit times and increased cargo capacity. Customers will be able to access the entire Finnlines and the Grimaldi Group network via Zeebrügge and Antwerp. ”London Medway handles a vast array of cargo including automotive, steel and ro-ro, so we expect a wide variety of commodities to be transported on Finnlines’ versatile fleet, placing the port as a key interchange between Scandinavia and Iberian markets,” said Richard Goffin, port director for Peel Ports Group, London Medway.
