There's a scheme which is not necessarily a scam, but is in my view an underhanded approach to getting business. The individual will connect with/ message you claiming to work for a recruitment company (for some reason a lot of these individuals have their location set as 'American Samoa') and will ask to see your CV to "see if we have any matching positions". Sounds fairly innocuous, right? Within an hour of sending your CV to these people, they will write back telling you that although your CV is impressive and they are sure that they will be able to find something for you, the CV doesn't quite match what LinkedIn and employers are looking for these days as CV's go through AI screening and there is s specific way of setting out your CV and vocabulary that will let your application move to the next stage with the widest pool of potential employers. As luck would have it, these "recruitment consultants" also provide a CV rewriting service and for a reasonable fee would be willing to give your CV the professional treatment. These are among the worst kind of parasite that we meet on LinkedIn, as they are preying on the desperation of people who need to find a job and may be willing to try anything. Shame on them.
The biggest scam on LinkedIn: I am hiring for multiple positions. "Like this post and I will review your profile." "Share your email and phone number and we will contact you." "Comment interested below and I will review your profile." Please understand, No legitimate recruiter or talent acquisition professional will ever hire talent in such an unprofessional manner. These scams are just a way for recruiters to create a database of responses and boost their visibility. Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Stay vigilant and protect your personal information !
