Investing in the Delta | West Central Alabama Area Health Education Center In 2023, the Delta Regional Authority awarded $450,000 in Delta Workforce Grant funding to support the Longleaf Outreach Project, an innovative community-based workforce development project aimed to increase the health care workforce pipeline in rural Alabama! ?? A coordinated effort led by the West Central Alabama AHEC, this initiative is empowering high school seniors and young adults with the skills and knowledge to address critical mental and behavioral health needs throughout Hale, Marengo and Perry counties. From Youth Mental Health First Aid to training as Community Health Workers, participants are gaining valuable experience while making a lasting impact on their communities. The latest Kindred Squared School Readiness Survey is out, and the findings are heartbreaking. Teachers report that a third of children (33%) starting Reception in 2024 were not school ready—a crisis with long-term consequences for children, schools, and society. In an average Reception classroom: ?? 45% of children cannot sit still ?? 34% don’t respond to simple instructions ?? 36% struggle to play or share with peers ?? 25% are not toilet trained And the problem is getting worse. Nearly half (49%) of teachers say school readiness has declined since last year. The report explores multiple causes, but screen time stands out as a major factor. Teachers and parents are deeply concerned: ?? 54% of teachers say parents are spending more time on screens than engaging with their children. ?? 54% of teachers believe children are exceeding the recommended two hours of screen time per day. ?? 52% say parents aren’t reading enough to their children. At Health Professionals for Safer Screens, we see the same patterns in healthcare. Paediatricians and teachers are witnessing the same crisis unfolding. Children’s addictive screen use and exposure to harmful content are damaging their development, mental health, and future prospects. This is not just an education issue. City of Seattle Expands Youth Mental Health Services with $7 Million in Local Provider Partnerships Today, Mayor Bruce Harrell joined education and public health partners to a announce the recipients of $7 million in funding through the Department of Education and Early Learning’s (DEEL) 2024 Telehealth for Students & Youth Request for Proposal (RFP). Building on the community-informed recommendations in the?City’s comprehensive report on youth mental health, these new investments will expand access to in-person and telehealth mental health services to support Seattle’s middle and high school students, as well as youth up to age 24, in 2025 and 2026. https://lnkd.in/gNdyBBng

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been chosen for #PrebysFoundation’s newest grant! Through the Healing Through the Arts and Nature initiative, our organization will be able to further our work in enhancing mental, physical, and emotional well-being by increasing access to the arts and the outdoors. From art therapy to nature-based wellness programs, this initiative is about creating spaces where San Diegans can connect, heal, and thrive. "Threads of Resilience: An Arts Exploration of [Inter] Connection & Belonging" is a 12-week arts-based program designed to strengthen students’ sense of connection, belonging, and mental well-being, particularly within Juvenile Courts and Community Schools (JCCS). Developed and facilitated by Arts Education Connection San Diego (AECSD) - this program leverages visual and performing arts to foster a positive school culture, support emotional resilience, and counter the growing mental health challenges facing today’s youth. This program is implemented in partnership with AECSD and is grounded in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) emphasis on “school connectedness” as a protective factor against anxiety, loneliness, and depression. It engages At-Promise and Justice-Involved youth at the San Diego Youth Transition Campus (YTC) and the foster youth population at San Pasqual Academy (SPA). The Threads of Resilience curriculum is designed to empower these students—who often face heightened social and emotional vulnerabilities—by providing them with an inclusive, supportive environment to explore their identities and build healthier coping strategies through the arts. #PrebysFoundation #HealingThroughArtsandNature #CollectiveCare
