While taking more time to reflect on my studies at Harvard, I have been thinking a lot about my SAY Sí senior thesis- Atychiphobia [fear of failure] (2019). In my artist statement from 2019, I summarize my motivations behind the piece: Atychiphobia [fear of failure] is an installation art piece based on the struggles I have experienced with the educational system. The expectations enforced by myself, my loved ones, and my community manifested themselves in intense dread in the face of failure or academic tribulations. The experience guides the player through thoughts and surreal imagery that embody emotions that feel bigger than the player themselves. Atychiphobia simulates brought about by crushing academic pressure. I hope that the application of these elements and digital environment in this piece will provoke the player and give them an abstract, empathetic look into the mind of a student in today’s educational system. The fear of failure is something I see being perpetuated in today’s classrooms. I have grappled with the fear of failure throughout my academic career, not because of the subject matter of my learning but by the delivery and current structures of the educational system. The toxic mindsets are fed to the students of my generation. By learning how to work and adapt to the current collegiate institution, I have managed to find my own path to success. Not all students, however, can tame the fear of failure enough to be able to find a future for themselves in academia. (2019) Looking back on this project, I still see many of the issues I discuss in this project being perpetuated in higher education. Simultaneously, I see a lot of growth and prosperity that I hope will continue to flourish in the coming years. ------------------------- You can hear more about my SAY Sí senior thesis and it's inspirations in depth by viewing the?HIVE Senior Interviews (2019) on Vimeo. https://lnkd.in/emFvKmX4

Why are women leaving the Engineering Field? Some points from Dr. Howard's Op-Ed that stuck with me: "Women engineers experience 3x more discrimination than women in the general public." “Women cope silently in an environment where they are reminded that it is not 'normal' to be a woman.” "Woman engineers swim in a sea of microaggressions that are often barely perceptible even to them because they have learned to navigate them so skillfully." We obviously have to do much better for reasons both practical (society has a shortage of engineers, just when we need them the most to address the huge challenges we face) and moral (basic human decency). It's great that women are being vocal and raising awareness about the realities of what they are facing. But just like larger societal challenges we have with discrimination/harassment/violence against women, not much will change unless men start calling out and demanding better from other men.
My first op-ed.
Opinion: Why, as a woman engineer, I left the profession

DSA day -23 On day 23 of my DSA journey, I delved deeper into linked list deep copies. I explored the intricacies of creating exact replicas of linked lists, ensuring both next and random pointers are correctly copied. This involved implementing and understanding algorithms that use hash maps for node mapping. Alongside this, I revisited arrays and binary search, solidifying my grasp on sorting and searching techniques. Revising these fundamentals reinforced my problem-solving skills, enabling me to tackle diverse challenges with greater confidence. This focused approach not only enhanced my coding efficiency but also deepened my understanding of complex data structures and algorithms. #Linkedln #Networking #Career #ProfessionalDevelopment #DSA

DSA is more art than science ? While picking up a new data structure or an algorithm, appreciate how amazingly well it solves the problem and the trade-off it takes. Looking at DSA from a fixed syllabus perspective, takes away the sheer joy you could experience when you understand the core, which may in turn encourage you to explore further and deeper. There are so many data structures and algorithms beyond what you prepare for interviews, and trust me they are much more interesting. So when you find time just look at the concepts you learn from a different lens. I have many many essays written on obscure topics each covering one paper, you can find them on my website. arpitbhayani.me/blogs Read and implement them whenever you find time. Trust me, they will make you fall in love with CS. #AsliEngineering

?? Exciting Update: Typing Test Achievement! ?? Thrilled to share my recent typing test results – a 10-minute challenge that pushed my skills to the limit. ???? ?? Key Metrics: Gross Speed: 39 WPM ?? Accuracy: 97% ? Net Speed: 38 WPM ?? Gross Strokes: 1982 ?? Error Hits: 50 (10 errors * 5) ?? Net Strokes: 1932 ? This experience not only tested my speed but also emphasized the importance of precision and accuracy in every keystroke. Every error was a lesson, and I'm proud to have achieved a 97% accuracy rate. ?? As I pursue my Bachelor's in Computer Science and Engineering, these skills are a testament to my commitment to excellence. ???? Ready for the next challenge and excited to see where these skills take me in the dynamic world of technology! ???? #TypingTest #AchievementUnlocked #TechSkills #CSStudent #FutureInTech

I studied computer science and mathematics. I’m not sure how much I’ll use them the rest of my career. It might seem like it was a waste. Sure, I may never need to optimise an algorithm perfectly. I’ll probably never need to prove a complex theorem. But I learned how to solve problems. How to apply logic, fundamental principles, and data to get answers. I learned how to work with peers to come up with innovative solutions. I learned how to learn, how to study, and how to search for the right resources online. I’ll use those skills for the rest of my life. #careers #college #university #computerscience #mathematics
