We have to live in reality and state the obvious in business. PWIs don’t just exist in higher education they exist in the corporate world. Once we give options to Black employees we will see a mass exodus from PWIs. Knowing that you can see the matriculation of people of color throughout a business matters a great deal. WE have to stop accepting the bare minimum and demand more… More respect, more opportunities, and we can no longer just take what we are given. No longer accepting the line of “your experience doesn’t match the salary you’re asking for”. The problem is getting the experience means accepting your disrespect and working in your PWI. No longer accepting the leftovers from the masters table but demanding and getting what we deserve.

Less than 16% of Gen Z says they’re proud to be American & we have a 25% recruitment deficit in the U.S. military. Here’s one step towards fixing our deficit of civic identity in the next generation: every high school senior should have to pass the same civics test required of legal immigrants before naturalization - that is, before enjoying the full privileges of citizenship. It’s actually not hard: score 60% or higher on a 10-question civics exam, drawn from a pool of 100 questions about U.S. history and government that one can study beforehand. Easier questions include naming the current president and explaining what the Declaration of Independence did (per the government’s cheat sheet, “declared our independence” is an acceptable answer). Harder questions include naming one of the Founding Fathers who wrote the Federalist Papers. You’d also have to swear a modified version of the naturalization oath, declaring allegiance to the United States, renouncing all loyalty to other nations, and agreeing to perform federal service in time of war or national emergency.
