One week to go until Luton's Walk of Hope 2024 in Luton's Wardown Park. Starts 1.30pm this Saturday 28th September. Brian cancer is the biggest killer of children and adults under the age of 40. It kills more children than leukaemia, more women under 35 than breast cancer and more men under 40 than prostate cancer. Yet compared to other cancers it is woefully under invested receiving only 1 % of the cancer research budget. More needs to be done to improve treatments that haven't changed in decades. Families will continue to receive the devastating prognosis of a 0% survival rate if we don't receive more investment. Monies raised at Luton's Walk of Hope helps fund research into Glioblastoma brain cancer. This is the most aggressive and deadly form of brain cancer. So far the previous events have raised in the region of ￡55,000 for Brain Tumour Research. The calendar has flipped to “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” and this October METAvivor will continue their mission to cut through the sea of pink “awareness” with green, teal, and their plea to do MORE for Stage IV. Now I wear teal for my wife,who was diagnosed last March, and started her first round of chemotherapy on her 35th Birthday. On average the popular breast cancer fundraising movements only put an estimated 5% of their research funds raised towards researching the only kind of breast cancer you die from – metastatic breast cancer. This year it is estimated that 115 individuals will die EVERY DAY from metastatic (Stage IV) breast cancer in the United States alone. The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading not-for-profit organisation funding breast cancer research towards a vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer. ? Breast Cancer stats in Australia: ? Breast Cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia and the most common among females. ? Everyday 58 people in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer, equating to over 21,000 people in Australia being diagnosed each year. ? 1 in 7 women and 1 in 550 men are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. ? Around 1,000 women aged under 40 are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, equivalent to about 3 young women each day. ?
