Telehealth software provider ConnectOnCall is in the process of notifying over 900,000 patients that their information was compromised in an attack earlier this year. ConnectOnCall provides telehealth and afterhours answering services with features built in to aid providers in patient data logging and tracking. The information being reported indicates that they are aware of a breach of their systems which occurred between February and May of 2024. After discovering the breach in mid May the parent company Phreesia contacted federal law enforcement, contracted outside experts for assistance and took ConnectOnCall software offline. Phreesia has since been relaunching the platform in a more secure environment. Phreesia offers several patient centric SaaS (software as a service) tools but assures consumers in their statement that there is no indication that their other platforms were impacted. The important detail to note as you read this article is that the breach was persistent for 3 months.....3 months. There are a few questions which are fair to ask. Was this a privilege access issue? Lost credentials? Human error? No? If not human error which part of the security stack failed for how long to enable this persistent threat? How often are you auditing these systems utilizing an independent 3rd party to ensure transparency? Just thoughts... Not casting stones just wondering.... #HardenTheTarget #StayVigilant https://lnkd.in/ejtg4jyj

Organisations should also look to their software to automatically process and submit online claiming events to Medicare while maintaining adherence with the Government’s online identity verification and authentication system, PRODA (Provider Digital Access). #agedcare #residentialcare #homecare #epicor #seniorlivingsolution

This hits home on a personal level. As an ex-Truepill executive AND the current owner of a telemedicine platform, reading the latest news about “Done” makes me deeply troubled. I’m not a doctor or a pharmacist. So instead, I set out to fix problems in our healthcare system the only way I know how: by creating amazing technology that helps doctors and patients connect over the internet. But here’s the point: I’ve still internalized what it means to “put patient safety above all else” and even though I never took the hippocratic oath, nothing matters more to me than the safety of our patients. This isn’t the first time we’re seeing this either. We all remember the whole “Cerebral” debacle. I personally know these people. These operators clearly BROKE THE LAW and prioritized dollar signs over doing what is right. It breaks my heart that the individuals that run these companies would compromise the integrity of telemedicine by acting in their own interests—instead of the interest of patients. As someone who has been in the telemedicine space for 7 years, it’s saddening and frustrating that bad actors are giving telehealth a negative reputation. Telehealth has been a turning point in our healthcare ecosystem: it’s a critical means that expands a provider’s reach and efficiency. Not to mention that patients demand innovative healthcare solutions. But how do we protect the population? There’s no question that the prescribing of addictive, high risk controlled substances needs oversight, but we can’t let what happened here stifle the progress of legitimate healthcare innovation. I agree that people who exploit the healthcare system need to be brought to justice–however I hope that instances like this don’t result in telehealth more broadly getting a bad rap! https://lnkd.in/gQ4btenk

Just when you thought processing and payments had resumed post (united) Health Change data breach/hack… FROM BCBS: Although Change Healthcare has worked to restore claims and clearinghouse services, Blue Cross Vermont has not reconnected to Change. We will reconnect to Change Healthcare’s clearinghouse once attestations of the safety and security of their platform has been completed, and the reconfiguring of services and validating of transactions is tested. There is no current time estimate for that reconnection. Due to the uncertainty of the timeline for restoring services with Change Healthcare, providers should not use Change Healthcare to send their claims transactions to Blue Cross Vermont. We continue to encourage providers and practices to seek alternative solutions for sending us their claims data, by using another Blue Cross Vermont approved clearinghouse vendor. NO DOUBT THIS IS A SMART CHOICE BY BCBS Unfortunately, it also means that payments have stopped for all providers whose billing software was connected to a Change Healthcare clearing house have stopped (again). YES WORK, NO PAY? Providers can’t self care their way out of financial jeapordy.

???????????????-???????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????? ??????????????????? ?-? ????????????? ?????????????????????? ? Have new restrictions to access to injury data impacted the accuracy of your provider billing or health plan claim payments? ? Many states are augmenting restrictions to access individual data by interested parties such as revenue-cycle and payment integrity vendors. ? The result of some of these more rigorous statues is to reduce the ability for revenue cycle and payment teams to find third-party liability information related to injuries requiring medical services. ? For example, the State of Florida has augmented the various disclosure prohibitions and restrictions contained in 18 U.S.C. §2721, the federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act, sections 119.0712(2), 316.066, 324.242, and 501.171, Florida Statutes, and other statutory provisions. ? Florida now requires new data exchange agreements, documentation of authorization to access driver information, and new security controls to permit access to certain driver information. ? Some vendors, and even some internal healthcare provider and payer teams have not or cannot satisfy these new requirements, resulting in missing the information necessary to determine the first responsible payer. ? ?????????????????? ???? ????????????????: ? 1.??????Have your medical payments from property and casualty payers decreased (even marginally) over the last 12 months? 2.??????Is your team or vendor on top of the changes to data privacy regulations in your operating market(s)? 3.??????Could your organization be missing up to eight percent of third-party liability? ? Want to know more??TPL Claims (www.tplclaims.com) is here to help! ? ?????????????? ???? today to discuss your unique situation. #tpl #rcm #revenuecycle #paymentintegrity

BetterHelp's $10 settlement for violating patient privacy emphasizes the need for stronger data protections. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) accused BetterHelp of misusing sensitive user data, undermining trust in patient confidentiality. The $7.8 million settlement resulted in negligible refunds for patients, failing to compensate for the emotional damage. This case highlights systemic privacy issues across healthcare, as seen in other incidents like the Change Healthcare cyberattack, which affected physician reimbursements and patient care. The pervasive monetization of patient data underscores the urgent need for robust safeguards. Legislative efforts like the proposed American Privacy Rights Act (APRA) aim to enhance consumer data protections. Ensuring patient data security is essential for maintaining trust in healthcare, particularly in telehealth. Stronger regulatory measures and penalties for breaches are crucial to safeguarding patient information and upholding the integrity of mental healthcare. Our clients will not experience such an insensitive and inconsiderate approach. We ensure the utmost protection of your data while using our technology, guaranteeing privacy and security in all situations.
