A lot of my Alabama friends sent me some articles posted on AL.com today about the risk of hemp-derived products and specifically Delta-8. Candidly, I thought the pieces were a little over the top and veered into fear-mongering at times. Having said that, if the take away from the articles is that consumers should educate themselves about what they put in their bodies, particular when it comes to cannabis-derived products (especially those containing THC), then I think it's a worthwhile message. I want to avoid pretending to be a doctor here, but you should probably not, for example, use a vape pen containing cannabis to get a euphoric feeling when you are pregnant. Just like you shouldn't ingest to excess a number of things that are legally sold in stores all over Alabama when you are pregnant. Nor should you, without obtaining either consent from your employer or solid legal counsel, consume a product containing THC if you're subject to drug testing at your job and there is a zero-tolerance policy for anyone who tests positive for THC. Are these rules fair? In many instances, probably not. That's a function of many things (old-fashioned beliefs, drug tests that cannot reliably differentiate between cannabinoids, a still maturing market for the products, an absolute mess of conflicting federal and state laws) but the most important thing we can do is educate ourselves and each other about what is in the products. When in doubt, ask. If still in doubt, maybe stay away. I'm always happy to hop on a call to discuss if anyone has any questions.

With a [delta-9] THC product, we will be next to the beverage fridges and will feature grab-and-go displays at checkout in supermarkets, [convenience] stores, and liquor stores. New publication!!! Our research work, published at BMJ Tobacco Control Journal (IF:5.2), reports on the development of pictorial health warning labels for electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) or e-cigarette, using the ‘Delphi’ approach with a panel of tobacco control experts. Twenty-four evidence-based ENDS-specific warnings corresponding to three themes (toxicity, health risks and specific harm) were developed and used in the Delphi study. These warnings can be used to advance ENDS prevention and tobacco control policies and further target different populations. For now, four out of these 24 warnings, are under investigation for a clinical trial study to estimate the effectiveness of health warning label on ENDS users’ puffing behavior and clinical outcomes.

Brands can find ways to celebrate some of the best aspects of 4/20—friendship, camaraderie, ritual, and cultural history—without relying on tropes that might not be the best fit for their ethos, vision or values. Minnesota regulators and police are currently discussing the possibility of closing the loophole that allows the sale of THCA hemp. Minnesota’s new recreational cannabis law has led to a #regulatory gap in overseeing high-potency raw hemp flower, #prompting a summit to address this loophole and seek clarity on enforcement #responsibilities between state regulators and law enforcement. The ambiguity arises from the law’s description of regulated #products, which includes hemp-derived #edibles and #beverages but omits raw hemp flowers. Consequently, the Office of #Medical #Cannabis, currently overseeing the regulation until the permanent Office of Cannabis Management is established in 2025, lacks jurisdiction over raw hemp #flowers. Law enforcement #agencies and #retailers following the law are seeking clarity and intervention from either state #regulators or local police to address retailers who are violating the law.
