Today, SPRC and AASHTO sent this letter to the Chairs and Ranking Members of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees advocating for funding that is equitably distributed to states to engage in passenger rail planning activities. This funding is critical to allow states to build capacity and deliver projects across multiple states, which will help advance corridors and achieve a national passenger rail network.

More great news for Mobile, AL!
Passenger rail services will be returning to Mobile in 2025, in conjunction with a $178Million investment in the coastal rail lines, which includes $72Million to upgrade rail infrastructure for the Port of Mobile. This win is a testament to partnerships and leadership by all involved. This project would not be possible without the cooperation, leadership, and vision of Senator Roger Wicker, the Southern Rail Commission, Mayor Sandy Stimpson, the Mobile City Council, Amtrak, CSX, the Alabama Port Authority, Governor Kay Ivey, the Federal Railroad Administration, the Federal Department of Transportation, and many other supporting organizations.

The Federal Rail Administration has completed a years-long study of preferred Amtrak expansion routes, and the results contain *three new lines* that connect with Atlanta: Chicago to Miami Dallas to Atlanta NYC to Houston This is only a preliminary step. Further analysis is needed before any of the new routes make it to funding and development stages. But it's exciting to see a proposal that increases Atlanta's rail service this much.
