Focusing on the Underserved: Minority youth, particularly those from underserved communities, often experience the lowest recovery rates. This disparity is unacceptable. The whole way we have approached looking for missing kids has changed with the advancement of technology. We have many #solutions. Be informed. Be diligent. Support the work we do.

This is a discussion that is being had across the country. Recent changes in addressing unlawful camping highlight the need for balance between police and code enforcement duties. Both groups must collaborate to assist the unhoused effectively. Johnson vs Grants Pass has definitely changed the landscape. Police bring crisis management skills along with safety elements, while code enforcement offers regulatory expertise. This partnership requires empathy, understanding the complex issues behind homelessness. The focus should be on creating a compassionate approach that upholds laws while providing pathways to long-term solutions. Training in de-escalation and social services is also crucial for code officials undertaking this work. By working together, these groups can address community concerns while supporting those in need, fostering a more comprehensive and humane response to homelessness. In Denver, the STAR program led to a 34% reduction in low-level crime in neighborhoods where it operated. Albuquerque's ACS department diverted over two-thirds of its calls from police, while Durham's HEART program responded to over 12,000 calls since its launch. ?? Not only do these programs alleviate the burden on law enforcement, but they also enjoy widespread support from both police and Americans across the political spectrum. Recent research indicates that 72% of likely voters believe sending behavioral health care workers to certain calls would improve safety. ??? As advocates for change, the ACLU is heading to Capitol Hill for Community Safety Week to urge Congress to make sound investments in long-term community safety. By fully funding Mobile Crisis Response programs, we can empower communities to create safer, more equitable environments for all. ?? Results from a consumer survey by NeighborWorks America, highlight the disconnect many are feeling with policymakers, with 75% feeling left out of the #affordablehousing conversation. In the spirit of #neighborworksweek, we’re celebrating the opportunities for connection we have successfully made this year between residents and State Legislators, California Housing and Community Development Department leaders, the State Treasurer, Sacramento Mayor, and other local elected officials.
