As part of the program NYU Law + NYU Wagner MS in Health Law and Strategy, I recently read article below, which despite its 2022 origins, feels prescient as we continue stitching our healthcare system back together. For companies building in healthcare, 5 key takeaways remain highly relevant and actionable: Equity Reigns Supreme:?Disrupting systemic barriers and ensuring equitable access to quality care for all,?regardless of background,?must be our guiding principle. Fortify the Safety Net:?Urgent reinforcement of our safety net hospitals and public health infrastructure is crucial.?They are the frontline defense for vulnerable populations; their collapse is unthinkable. Beyond Band-Aids:?Addressing the social determinants of health – poverty,?housing,?food insecurity – is essential for long-term well-being.?We must move beyond symptom management and attack the root causes. Investing in the Future:?Prioritizing mental health services,?early childhood development,?and access to nutritious food is an investment in our children's health and potential. State HDOs provide those responsible for serving the public good with comprehensive information about a state’s health care system and its performance, from health care access and service affordability, to health condition prevalence and system competitiveness. In a new white paper prepared with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Manatt Health's Kevin McAvey and Amy Zhan provide a framework for what a #StateHDO is, how these entities can support evidence-based policymaking, and what core program, operational and functional elements they comprise.
