The story of healthcare, the story of public health often gets told as if communities are the objects of change: some heroic doctor or healthcare system saves the day. That’s only one part of the narrative. Communities are the subjects—the agents—of change. We’ve got to make care more proximal, public health more proximal. And I think looking beyond our walls, investing in the people closest to the problem, is a big part of that approach. The Signify Health In-home Health Evaluation (IHE) is 2.5 times longer than a typical in-office doctor appointment. With more time, our clinicians can connect meaningfully with health plan members, observe and hear about factors impacting their health, such as their level of health care engagement, and help support their connection with a primary care provider. Our new white paper “The Correlation Between Enhanced Member Experience and Improved Primary Care Engagement” explains how the IHE supports long-term value for your health plan and members. It's 2024, and yet the healthcare wounds caused by the COVID-19 pandemic remain raw. As part of the program NYU Law + NYU Wagner MS in Health Law and Strategy, I recently read article below, which despite its 2022 origins, feels prescient as we continue stitching our healthcare system back together. For companies building in healthcare, 5 key takeaways remain highly relevant and actionable: Equity Reigns Supreme:?Disrupting systemic barriers and ensuring equitable access to quality care for all,?regardless of background,?must be our guiding principle. Fortify the Safety Net:?Urgent reinforcement of our safety net hospitals and public health infrastructure is crucial.?They are the frontline defense for vulnerable populations; their collapse is unthinkable. Beyond Band-Aids:?Addressing the social determinants of health – poverty,?housing,?food insecurity – is essential for long-term well-being.?We must move beyond symptom management and attack the root causes. Investing in the Future:?Prioritizing mental health services,?early childhood development,?and access to nutritious food is an investment in our children's health and potential. Data-Driven Decisions:?A healthcare data revolution is necessary.?Securely harnessing health information can fuel innovation,?personalize care,?and improve outcomes.?Remember,?data privacy and ethical considerations are paramount to maintain trust throughout the ecosystem. By collaborating – policymakers, providers, patients, and the public – there is a path forward that navigates the ongoing turbulence and builds a more equitable, resilient, and future-proof healthcare system. #healthcare #healthequity #publichealth #futureofhealthcare

Supporting public health and medicine through education and research to align systems and communities using principles of instructional design and health communication.
If you enjoy learning from others and are interested in the power of narrative to change lives, I urge you to review and perhaps participate in The Project for Advancing Health Stewardship: https://lnkd.in/gB4_M2YT There is even a blog section to connect around issues that matter most to you or your community. The point of this space is to utilize narratives so that we might further our shared understanding of health and healthcare but also our collective experiences around health.

State policymakers across the country are establishing State #HealthData Organizations (HDOs) to inform policymaking and regulatory decision-making. State HDOs provide those responsible for serving the public good with comprehensive information about a state’s health care system and its performance, from health care access and service affordability, to health condition prevalence and system competitiveness. In a new white paper prepared with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Manatt Health's Kevin McAvey and Amy Zhan provide a framework for what a #StateHDO is, how these entities can support evidence-based policymaking, and what core program, operational and functional elements they comprise. Join us for a live webinar panel on October 22, where Kevin, Amy and Joel Ario will discuss key findings and takeaways from the paper and hear about lessons learned from senior leaders leveraging HDOs.
