The State Ethics Commission issued a Public Education Letter today to Ware Police Chief Shawn Crevier after finding reasonable cause to believe Crevier violated the conflict of interest law by using his official position and public resources to advocate against and rally opposition to proposed gun law reform legislation through a series of posts on the Ware Police Department’s Facebook page.

?? Why Ethics-Led Policing is Critical for the Future of the Profession ?? In case you haven't noticed, policing in America remains under intense scrutiny. While there was a brief reprieve as communities grappled with the mass exodus from the profession over the past few years, the pressure is mounting again as we approach election season. Ethics-led policing stands as a beacon of hope and a necessity for the future. In the latest episode of #TheCoptimizerPodcast, I spoke with Ross Swope, one of the most accomplished figures in modern law enforcement I've ever met! Ross’s incredible career spans over 43 years. He rose through the ranks to serve as Deputy Chief of the DC Metro Police and Chief of Police for the Supreme Court of the United States. From his work with Scotland Yard as a Fulbright Scholar to commanding officers in the nation’s capital, Ross brings a unique and invaluable perspective on why ethics must be the cornerstone of policing. In his book Ethics-Based Policing (https://a.co/d/f45t9xE), Ross presents a clear guide to addressing modern law enforcement challenges. By focusing on seven building blocks of integrity, illustrated by powerful stories from his career, Ross shows how police departments can use the available tools to create a culture grounded in accountability. When implemented with unwavering dedication, this approach can dramatically reduce, or even eliminate, excessive use of force and the resentment that often follows. This book—and our conversation—is a call to action. It’s an invitation to police officers, leaders, and community members to embrace higher ethical standards, improve the profession, and restore trust, confidence, and cooperation between the public and those who have sworn to serve them. Ross and I delve into the critical role of ethics-based leadership in shaping the future of policing. We explore how continuous learning, community relationships, and tools like body cameras are not just theoretical concepts but essential practices for maintaining integrity and accountability in law enforcement. Ross shares compelling stories from his career, illustrating the real-world challenges of leading with ethics under pressure. Take advantage of this insightful and thought-provoking episode. Listen now and join the conversation about the future of ethical leadership in law enforcement. https://lnkd.in/gc6rSD-U https://lnkd.in/gDMdhgQu #EthicsInPolicing #LawEnforcement #Leadership #CoptimizerPodcast #RossSwope #PoliceLeadership #CommunityTrust #FutureOfPolicing #PublicSafety
